Probably not happening until later in the month until the mud hardens. Its kind of hard to do an armored push in mud. The leak was more than likely a disinformation run by the US Military and the Five Eyes to get Russia to move its resources elsewhere just in case. I don't think its altered the timeline of the counter offensive at all.

I mean, there's no reason to take them seriously unless the Russians can confirm them with their own intelligence or has its own intelligence assets within the NATO army. I think its just a very public leak like dropping leaflets. Its just a psy-op and its very easy to recruit an idiot kid who thought it'd be funny to 'leak' classified documents.

In reality, the documents are probably a mix of real and fake information, to try to make the Russians believe them or gather support for US soldiers in Ukraine. Which I don't think will work, by Milley has been functionally fucking retarded and wrong as long he's been overseeing the joint chiefs, so who the fuck knows.

The fact that the dude is in the national guard, how the fuck did he get leaked documents? You're right, smells like a fucking OP. The Russians aren't idiots. They're going to use their own intelligence on the ground. Shifting due to a 'leak' would be incredibly retarded. The problem is the whole thing is designed to waste time. Yeah, they might not buy it 100% but they still need to invest resources just in case. And that's really what the Pentagon is counting on, that there's just enough ass covering by the Russians to make the offensive succeed. Because it wouldn't be the first time an intentional leak was used to confound the enemy by thinking it was fake. I know Wagner said it wouldn't alter its plans, but realistically it needs to have countermeasures at the ready and attempt to gain reliable intel to make sure, and even then you can't guarantee that. So you really do have to cover all your bases, just in case.

Disinformation like this is pretty classic, and jailing some random is peanuts compared to blowing up Nordstream. More likely we got one of our allies intelligence services to feed him the information, so the CIA can be like, "WASN'T US". But ruining some dudes life for a disinformation campaign? Compared to what the CIA does, that's tame.

The command needs the offensive to succeed. They cannot have it fail. They would gladly sacrifice credibility for a feint, because they're not really sacrificing anything. The more it looks real, the more believable it is. So to command, its basically done for free. Except, you know, it cost this one poor bastard his life by making him the thing the media hates the most and probably goading him to release it. The idea it's a pshy-op could be entertained to throw confusion and false confidence for the Russians so the uaf counter offensive that's totally happening in 2 weeks could be more effective. From what understand from the Leaks if it’s not a Fed Op is that the guy basically was trying to win an argument… in a shitposting Discord.
