Gamefaqs - An old gaming website that still exists somehow

LL has shut down. All the threads are deleted and no more posting.
Tiko made a spinoff website, but it's sitting pretty barren right now.
Huh. Why?

I'm not sure why I care. I haven't been there in years. But it's like that loser friend who dropped out of high school to become a full time druggie, then ten years later out of nowhere you find an obituary.

All I know about LL is that it used to be a good piracy site, then Megaupload shut down, and they didn't replace the file sharing part with anything. The boards were just full of people insulting and trolling one another. And then they got really woke and full of trannies, and its all ogre now. Rest in piss, useless forum.

That perfectly explains how I feel about it

I was actually just thinking about this site while on the road yesterday, I was thinking about how do people pronounce FAQ is it: "eff a que" or "fack"? Then I faintly remembered people always referring to that old ass site GameFAQS as the latter

Wait my brain isn't working right now (sleepy) LL?
LL is Luelinks, a spinoff of the ever-notorious board Life, the Universe, and Everything, which was quarantined in '03 or '04 because it was home to all the absolute worst of the worst fedoralords on the entire forum. The "links" part were pirated Megauploads to anything you can pirate, but that ended after Megaupload got seized, and the forum stayed up until now.

What's funny is that whenever I needed to know where Items drop and what from GameFAQs was the only place that had the correct info and had it formatted in an easily readable layout.

Case in point: I thought they changed the price for platinum plate in LAD: Ishin for the Ishin difficulty, I go to search but everything else just returns saying the plat plate is the best thing to sell for money, search using gamefaqs and they have it tabled like this and answered my question. Now I know its working as intended and where to get the materials I need for weapon upgrades.

Not to pull an "Acksually" on you, but the links were originally a way to get around moderation on Gamefaqs. Instead of posting tubgirl or the pains, you'd post a LLcode that would bring you to the offensive shit in question. Eventually the Gamefaqs mods demanded they be allowed on site to moderate the LLcodes, LLamaguy said fuck off and people began to use links for other shit. LLamaguy stated on many occasions he hated being a piracy hub since it wasn't ever his intention, so Mega shutting down let him do it without as much drama.

A few link sites popped up after, the biggest being Soitgoes and Code Kermit. CK died long ago, but SiG is still up.

So, apparently 261(politics) has been nuked.

I would occasionally see what people there were REEEEEEing about, but wow was it a shithole. The mods were quick with a ban for anyone that said anything even remotely against the prevailing narrative.

Not really sure the exact reason for it closing, beyond the bulshit corpo speak linked above. Reddit seems to the they were starting to say the quiet part out loud and the mods were encouraging it, causing liability. Reddit, though, so take that with a grain of salt.

Either way, press P to piss, and all.

Edit: Also I hope Humble_Novice commits suicide over this, get fucked faggot, hahahahahahaha!

Edit 2: They've fled to reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/gamefaqs261/

There's probably a discord as well, but I don't care enough to look.

Wait, GameFAQs is now owned by Fandom? Hahahaha, they deserve each other.

They might as well just shut down all the social boards at this point. Gamefaqs community has been a fucking cancer for nearly a decade now.
In fairness, they've always had problems. People were always so quick to be the biggest fucking assholes, even back in the late 2000s. But yeah, it seems like around the time of Gamer Gate that it really went down the drain.

I wonder what the easy, the sleazy, CJayC Jeff Veasy is doing these days

You think he pissed away his million dollar Gamespot payout? He looked like the type

I don't think that's him. I've looked high and low, but never found a picture of CJayC / Jeffrey Craig Veasey. He kept his powerlevel in check to an impressive degree.

Reverse image searching that brought this up: http://www.retrogames.com/store/ which is attributed to "Opi".

By the way, he now lives in Gig Harbor, WA with his wife, Alexis Alvarez, and mother, Kathaleen Ann Veasey. He and Alexis (who didn't take his last name, loooooooooooool) did not have any children. CJayC has lived with his mother his entire life.

Without saying too much, I'm surprised any of this is talked about. All the LUE history is fake at this point, written and re-written by autistic interested parties that none of it can really be trusted. I know personally a good deal of what people say or was written down is outright false.

As for Veasey, he actually had a little bit of a sense of humor in private. I think deep down he found some of the KoS Krew and stuff kind of funny despite the headaches they gave him. Trolling then was as it is now, predominately about getting a rise out of people for humor value, and trolling on gamefaqs was probably where a lot of young people pre-4chan started their internet careers. I think he bullshitted around in an AIM chat room a few times with them. In retrospect he probably realized what he had with GameFAQs ($) and ran it like an easy business, respected his cash cow as a money-making venture, and sold it, kind of like Myspace Tom. It's funny, Tom annoyed us back then and we disliked Veasey but we didn't really know what we had compared to the admins of today. I don't wanna invade his privacy too much as he hasn't earned it--looking up his house in Gig Harbor, it's modest but nice (back balcony, large enough for two people, valued at $350,000.

Glad some lame idea spawned from a hangover helped ruin your life by signing you up to this den of terminal autism.

Wasn't the text of that account suicide used as a copypasta? Because I have vague recollections of seeing something like that more than once. Or was it an entire genre of account suicides to write about hotpocket orgies?

Correct. The account suicide text became a meme on GameFAQs that was copied by other people either verbatim or in style for awhile. I can't recall the original motivations for the account suicide but a lot of people were frequently angry by moderation on GameFAQs often being biased, with dipshits like that burger huffer wallywest80 or whatever his name was consistently moderating inconsistently and with a lot of personal subjective leeway. Whatever the catalyst was, DarkCobra had simply had enough of watching him and others get nailed on the constant inconsistent moderation. Oddly it was more conservative time then, so you didn't have very much of this LGBT shit but you had bigger prudes from the other side of the political aisle. These were the days of John Ashcroft, video game censoring, etc...

GF mods were cancer because they were all volunteer losers. Though today I imagine it was a bastion of free speech compared to even Twitter now. My memory is hazy. This was all so long ago. I don't know how some of you people remember this more than me.

That's true, though GameFAQs felt ultra-restrictive at the time by the fact that it had mods at all. Even forums on major services at the time like AOL and Yahoo were either practically or totally unmoderated, attracting total shitheads spewing diarrhea long before the days of smartphones and India getting online.

That's pretty much it. Early GameFAQs had bugfuck retarded rules like requiring full censoring for curse words, so even "f***", like was used on the entire rest of the internet, would stick you with a nasty moderation that'd drop your karma. There were no word filters, either, so you had to censor yourself or face the wrath of mods. Which, in retrospect, was fucking retarded. CJayC had the wherewithal to write something to automatically report your post if you included the word "gay" anywhere, but couldn't include something that says "if "fuck", then replace "fuck" with "****" " in the code?

But also, obvious baitposting was unpunished, so a lot of trolls would baitpost and then those who'd respond would get in trouble for breaking the TOS, leading to a hell of a lot of resentment against the staff. The rules were bad and the mods were too. So, a lot of people nuked their accounts as a final "fuck you".

They also had a no spoiler rule. Common knowledge has it that someone once got banned for saying the Titanic sinks at the end. No idea if that's true, though.
