I think he cried because he mentally bet everything, his entire remaining self worth, on winning the fight. He had to win. So when he lost, it totally broke his mind. Nothing left, he probably saw himself as a total failure in every regard.

However, the fans still cheered for him post-fight and that was enough to get him to take the shotgun barrel out of his mouth, so he cried.

It's not as complicated at this. Basically every losing fighter, at all levels of public fighting, cries. 99% of the time it happens in the locker room where no one sees, but this is a normal reaction to losing a fight.
