Tabletop Roleplaying Games (D&D, Pathfinder, CoC, ETC.)

Hmm. Would anyone want to run/play a Kiwis only game online? Not sure how we could do that without doxing ourselves though I imagine we could just setup Roll20 free accounts using anonymous emails. Could do voice chat without camera, or even just pure text?
I don't want to hear any Farmer's nasal autistic voice. Seriously, thought of going to Discord and listening to some Chris/Alog/Null soundalikes pretending to be a based seducer of foids and demon-decapitating gigachad makes me shudder. I encourage you to post session reports, of course.

Coukdn't be any worse than the tables at my local gaming cafe. At least I wouldnt have to look at a fat troon, a fat dangerhair, and a fat neckbeard while listening to them try and seduce each other.

I currently run Pokemon Tabletop Adventures for some Kiwis. I've known them for a few years though and none of them had ttrpg experience. I just asked if anyone wanted to try it and got volunteers. We originally had like 6 players and it was a nightmare but the worst of the autistic shitters left and its going smoothly now.

I will say Kiwis have been better than people I've picked up from Roll20. I've had 1 good player from there in the 11 years or so since I started using it and that poor guy got deployed and lost all interest in ttrpgs when he came back. Everyone else was either an extreme weirdo or flake before the first session when you say no to their special snowflake character using a bunch of homebrew and is 10 points over point buy. I've also tried recruiting from the Pokemon Tabletop forums and the only person I got who wasn't a flake was a gay furry who was jerking off to his Grovyle during the session.

How do you like the system? My brother and I have been considering using it for a one shot, and I've toyed around with the Foundry module, but I haven't had a chance to actually run it.

Well here's the thing. I'm running PTA 2 which stopped getting updated at USUM though a fan made SwSh Pokedex exists. Its a clunky mess and some things I've had to hard replace like the awful skill system and there are plentiful typos I have to work around. With that said there is both an automated character sheet and encounter generator which removes the worst of the clunk for both players and GM. I'm slowly working on a 2.5 version with one of my friends.

The version you found is probably PTA 3. I have not played it but I proofread it for Dr Mr Stark and because he's an actual retard he didn't fix even the typos I pointed out, let alone the blindingly obvious balance issues. He kept repeating "Well 5e is popular so I'll just copy what they do" during development and the final product ended up with worse clunk than 2 but also the stink of 5e. I'm not a fan but it has some level of community on its Discord while 2 has like 1 guy still making homebrew for it that isn't me and my group so some people like it.

Honestly if you are looking into a Pokemon Tabletop go with PTU if you want a crunchier game that kind of copies the game and go with Pokerole if you want a lighter game that more closely emulates the anime.

Just wanted to add I've had good luck with online games started in forums/groups. The last one I was in was started with members from a FB writing group and did was a lot of fun. I'd offer to DM but
1) I've never DM'd before
2) I havent played 1st, 2nd 3rd or 4th, edition D&D, PF, SW, or any other system enough to even consider myself a skilked player
3) with my schedule I cant even commit to playing every week.

But if anyone is interested in DMing a kiwi game Ill play whenever Im not driving and if we do voice chat Ill be happy to pkay while driving if the DM us willing to roll for me.

Thank you for the info fren, we'll probably go with PTU then. My regular group usually plays Pathfinder so they'll probably have more fun with crunchtism.
It turns out the PTU Foundry system has an automated Pokedex and some other neat features, so that'll be quite helpful.

I think we'll try making something like an African region or Jurassic Park to justify Pokemon safaris the size of small countries, that'd probably be a fun time.

It was fun for me but I'm a fucking weirdo, I'd never expect that kind of devotion from my players lol
One of my more obnoxious characters was a magic user with an infuriatingly affected and obviously fake nasal accent, who despite being a cowardly wimp and a klepto (who was not even good at it), clearly looked down on the rest of the party. People were basically "Shut the fuck up Wesley" whenever he'd go on one of his tirades.
How are you even supposed to play a game with all the horseshit going on in the hobby? I just want some kind of white pill for not just this hobby, but literally any hobby I have.
My RPGing more or less ended with college because nobody really has time to do it any more. And even if they did, the whole environment is so toxic and retarded it's not worth setting something up only for it to be ruined by one deranged troon chimping out all the time.

My online group has an opening for a Pathfinder game on Mondays at noon CST, if you're interested. Two of us are Kiwis, the others are Kiwi-adjacent. It's a pretty good time. I'm not sure if we can allow a pink triangle, though.

I would be open to GMing some OSR, but the problem is I maintain extremely high opsec and admin separation. So while I wouldn't give a shit if my players were kiwis, the trick would be ensuring no one knew that I was.

So I guess people would need to recommend a 3rd party site where they were looking for a game.
and then wait for me render the to post in here bitching about them
I know the RPGSite is sort of alt-right lowcows from the other side of the horseshoe, but I don't know what their game recruitment looks like.

You can run a text chat game, I run one right now (I even posted an invitation in this thread forever ago but nobody replied :(:(:().
Requires people who can type fast lest it turns into a slog but it's probably more reliable than PBP which are prone to days-weeks long delays if someone puts off continuing something.

My current group of regulars are folks I met here, way back when. It probably wouldn't be too hard to find a decent group here.

I'd be wiloing to give it a try. I'm just not sure how often I'd be able to play. Today I coukd have for example, but that's just because I've bern stuck at a shipper since 16:00 yesterday.

Roll20 is pretty simple but functional.

I think I would also be open to being part of a dnd group. During the week is kinda difficult but most Saturdays are fine. I wouldn't mind VC only cause I type slow.

And my current group used roll20 when the pandemic started cause they were very afraid of it. Prefer IRL but it's fine I guess.

It is what it is. Everybody keeps talking about how TTRPG is this vibrant ecosystem that's never been more popular, when in fact the genre itself is in deep, deep trouble. Remove 5e from the equation and I'd argue TTRPG would be as popular as it was before 3e came out. Sure, there's more variety in products and they're often more "accessible", but even with Wizards' constant fuckups most people aren't actually playing anything besides the big monolith dominating the space. And I shouldn't have to explain why a single brand representing over 80% of a hobby is a Bad Thing™.
And after the OGL fiasco, most of those 5e normies have left and stayed gone.

(I think they were wanting to leave anyway and the OGL was a convenient way out)

I mentioned a one shot I was going to run, but my players got busy over Easter, and I've only heard back from two since.

I refuse to use Roll20 on principal I backed the KS, they promised Roll20 backer access for life, only to get shit on when they went to market. that translated into Beta access, a code for 3 free months when they went 1.0, and you get some gay flair for you account tagging you as a sucker. I didn't expect external access to 3 TB of storage and all the cool graphical whistles, but I was expecting at least Free but No Ads or maybe some extra asset storage. Plus their market place shits up the GIS results when I go hunting for assets.

Given it'd be OSR/OSE, There wouldn't really be a need for a VTT. Just something for handout graphics & white board.
Which is great because I am not giving any internet randos my IP for Maptool, let along people from this board.*

*they have some proxy options I have been too lazy to explore.

No idea on the history of Roll20. Also not sure how using Roll20 woukd give out your IP but then I'm a boomer so....

There's a program on steam called talespire that I've played around with a little bit. It's a 3d map builder with some functionality for DMs like moving pieces and altering environments. A few other bells and whistles too so I'd recommend it. It's not done but in my opinion there's a decent foundation there
