What you're describing is by no means universal and AFAIK was limited to a small part of American society.

In fact for most of Western history kids just dressed like small versions of adults once they were out of baby clothes. Go look at any old depiction of a child in a portrait or a painting and they're just dressed like little adults. You can still see it in groups like the Amish in fact.

I agree that Katie and Tucker should (and presumably will) be financially well cared for. But I disagree whole heartedly that she should move, much less across the country.

If, as I've been presuming (OK, I tell a lie,  hoping), she's got a good Christian family and a good Christian community around her that she grew up with, then I would advise staying there, drawing strength and support from those who know her and love her.
