When Grand Admiral Dönitz was put on trial at Nuremberg, among the charges against him was the claim he carried out urestricted submarine warfare against neutral vessels as well as refusing to rescue drowning allied troops. To that he pointed out the Allies had engaged in the same thing. He was convicted on other charges but that one was dropped. He served the next ten years imprisoned in West Berlin. After that he lived a calmer life in West Germany and passed away in 1980. Why would the evil, murderous Allies let out a mortal enemy after only 10 years, a man they called a war criminal, a man who was unrepentant for what he had done the whole time no less? Why would the West German government allow him to publish memoirs on his exploits in service of the Third Reich? Or allow his comrades to attend his funeral and burial? Why would any malevolent regime allow any of that? You say I am too emotional but I ask you how any man could look at all the horror the war had wrought and feel nothing? How he could not feel a tug on the strings of his heart at the sight of people picking up the pieces of their lives and somehow putting it all back togther? But more specifically, what is your basic argument with us really? That a holocaust is when people die in large numbers? Funny you should mention Patton. He had misgivings about what side he was on in the conflict between germany and the soviet union when he saw what things were like on the ground level. Germans viewed Jews as a political threat to the body politic. Thus deportation was the solution as the evidence shows.
