I played trombone. Band teacher used to put the bass clarinet weirdos in the back row with us. It ruined our heavy brass groove when we got all stupid with the tuba and sousaphone guys. We were always the ones egging on the dumb-as-dirt percussion people to act out for our entertainment. The bass clarinet weirdos, when they graduated from the front row reeded-recorder and realized that was lame, fuckin' ruined it. Deal with it. Deal with my high school trauma of not being able to dip tobacco and dump it out the spit valve because fuckin' Brent the bass clarinet wuss would tell.

I feel like thrash metal is not going to be a big draw to women, even as fans. I don't have any stats on this, but I feel like women are going to be drawn more to the more melodic subgenres, like symphonic metal (Sonata Arctica, Nightwish (Nightwish does feature a female on lead vocals, they can be very operatic)), again mostly as fans.

The only female guitarist I know of is Nita Strauss. I know there are more, but my point stands: metal is not known for attracting female musicians.

Not go in an offtopic discussion but i strongly disagree. There are many many female fronted metal bands and females playing instruments, even many full female bands like Nemesis. while i agree they tend to be in the more melodic metal genres like, gothic metal, black metal, death metal, while speed, thrash heavy metal are more dominated by males.
