At the bare minimum it improves the soldier morale. If you believe your weapons have a blessing buff you'll be a smidge more bold and confident, which could make all the difference.

That's disturbing, and not a good sign of Ukraine's manpower. Doing so may be difficult to hide from Ukraine's allies, would would see it as Ukraine having run out of adult men to fight.
