Dr. Who

It was bad enough when Who had a chomo running the show, now it's about one.
At least JNT's early years were actually solid Who. That was worth a couple diddled kids I guess 🤷

It was later when he was seriously alcoholic that he started doing fucked up shit like whatever that clown suit they put Colin Baker in was.

Tom's last year needed a shakeup. JNT did fairly well there. Davison at his worst is still watchable. It's too bad JNT didn't leave with Davison. And thank god Colin got Big Finish. McCoy too to a lesser extent.

How over is it Whobros?
It was over just a couple years after JNT took over. The semi-good years. And before Colin Baker being forced to put on the clown suit.

We were sold a fraud when David Tennant acted in a few okay episodes. And Eccleston got suckered into a few too. Okay and Capaldi and Smith couldn't save anything, it wasn't their fault, but that shit sucked too. The fact is other than Tennant, modern Who has been a complete disaster. There's nothing the actors can do to save absolutely worthless production.

God I hate these maggots devouring a dead franchise.

This. Also I really like Davison's acting, even if Castrovalva was probably the best. I always think of Davison through the lens of his role as Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great and Small.

It always bugged me that an actually good Doctor actor like Davison basically had his best episode as his first. And then just got rekt by JNT being a complete fucking retard.

At this stage I am perfectly OK pretending the new series never happened.

I blame Eric Sayward. A better script editor would have made a huge difference.

Ah, the wonderful All Creatures Great and Small that traumatised a nation with he revelation of just how far a human arm could go inside a cow. More innocent times.

Davison never really got the career he deserved but if not already seen, A Very Peculiar Practice should be. Fantastic show with a fantastic cast including Davison, the late great Graham Crowden, Barbara Flynn and David Troughton (yes the son of Patrick for another Who connection). Only two series (15 episodes) and a special but a largely unknown gem set in the swamp of fear and loathing of a UK university campus medical practice.

That must be an age thing. I was a little kid when I started watching Who in the 80s, and it was Colin's first season. The obnoxiousness, flamboyance, and Saward's violent stories with cold mercenaries like the guy from Attack of the Cybermen were the coolest things to a little boy. A robot trying to turn a dude into a robot and then crushing his hands when he tries to escape? Hell yeah. If I'd been older I probably would have thought it was dumb, sure.

Revelation of the Daleks is in my top three, along with Caves of Androzani and whatever the one that's basically just a long monologue by Capaldi was called, either Hell Sent or Heaven Bent. I got Colin to sign a copy of The Two Doctors for me and told him it was the first story I saw so I thought the show was all beautiful women and exotic locations. He was complaining about his signing table being on the floor and not up on stage, it was perfect.

@AnOminous - No love for Caves of Androzani? Davison and Nicola Bryant are doing some real acting in that one.

Saward was hamstrung by Jimmy Saville-lite saying that they could only use new writers initially, that killed Davison's era. He was a big Robert Holmes fanboy and if Davison had gotten a couple of Bob Baker/Dave Martin stories too that would have helped the quality. Even their worst stuff is better than Time Flight or that Sea Devils one. Or Chris Boucher after Blake's 7 ended. Doctor Who is how it's always been, great when it's great, and then the rest of it. Jodie's regeneration scene was not as awful as I was expecting and was beautifully shot, even she had a bright spot.

I'm done now though, it's not just that it's awful, it also has way too long between seasons. My little flame of enthusiasm can't be kept alive that long.

I still don't understand how Moffat will pump out piles of trash without rest before suddenly shitting out a gem that gets fans talking for years... before immediately returning to trash
Moffat couldn't resist trying to be subversive with Hell Bent and really didn't want Clara to stay dead. Everything involving the Doctor defying the Time Lords when he was staying at the barn was compelling, but it really goes downhill after he becomes President and demands the extraction chamber.

AND and it was still better than what we've got since. Capaldi was a great doctor screwed over by a show runner's weariness, overreach, and the coming troon storm. Say what you will about some episodes of Davis and Moffat (and we can), but anything after ' Twice Upon a Time' just isn't worth talking about at this point.

God, I wish Tennant had just stayed away. You know it will be bad, just fucking why?
