Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

I hope whoever works on the port isn't a retard discord larper like the clowns that are working on the Ocarina of Time port. They lock it all behind their discord, and do this big larp about the CDI zelda games for some reason. The actual non-retard port got abandoned because nobody was working on it, instead just using the larper one. I think they also tried to cancel the lead dev of the openoot one for some reason or another.
The main dev of Ship of Harkinian whined about Open Ocarina non-stop; the devs, the project, everything, while complaining that “akshually WE’RE the victims and they’re picking on us for no reason!” He kept making server announcements for everyone to stop talking about OO and giving them attention when he was usually the one bringing them up to begin with. And I was in both servers; the OO community barely ever talked about SoH aside from calling out their bullshit. Unfortunately, the end result is that SoH is undeniably the best way to play OoT because all the competent devs piled on (though it also helps that SoH is much easier to actually set up while OO requires you to compile the game yourself like most versions of the Mario 64 port).

Is it enough for a community watch? Or has all the drama dried up now that they bullied openOOT out of the picture?

I really wish OOT got as many ports as Mario 64 did. We don't have RTX for OOT because of the hoops required to do anything with SoH source*. Mario 64 has a bunch of different ports and a fancy launcher to build custom versions and a mod loader and everything, while OOT has a single port controlled by power hungry discord larpers

*The guy who did the mario 64 rtx port isn't doing anything on SOH, instead hes just working on an n64 emulator plugin to interp to 60fps and add raytracing

I mean fuck it just pirate a rom I won't even complain at you for being poor so long as it keeps you out of the sphere of these "open" project retards.

Sony tried that for the Vita with the Playstation TV, I don't think it did very well
Sony also cut the library in half for no discernible reason, so maybe Nintendo would do better.

Finally bought myself a Switch, planning to make either Smash Ultimate or Super Mario Party my first game, but other than those, what other games would you kiwis recommend??
If you don't have friends who enjoy playing Switch with you, I wouldn't recommend getting either of those games for a bit lol
Also seconding the anon who said Superstars is better than Super

As for actual recommendations, Mario Odyssey is a must-have and Zelda obviously comes highly recommended (BOTW not LA)
If you're looking for console-exclusive puzzles I can't help you there (all I can think of atm is Snipperclips, and that's both short and multiplayer-focused), but in terms of RPGs there's a few JRPGS that i've heard aren't atrocious: Octopath 1 and 2, every Xenoblade game (but the first is a remaster), Live-A-Live (remaster), and Saga Frontier come to mind (both a remake and a collection, I think?)
I haven't played any myself so I can't wholeheartedly recommend, but I've heard they're good
Octopath is also first-party iirc and Xenoblade definitely is.

Regarding Switch JRPGs

Octopath 1: Fine game, not a terribly interesting story. Has some good turn based gameplay, but eventually you overpower shit like crazy except for optional fights and the games become a steam roll. It has some good optional fights, and the true final boss is a great challenge that is ruined by a really repetitive idea to make it so you must fight a 20-30 minute mini boss gauntlet before you can even attempt the actual boss again. Haven't tried 2.

Xenoblade (general): Think FF12, but actually good combat and without gambits. It is that constant open world kind of feel 12 tried to have, but done much better. The plots are generally good, pretty anime stuff but more like 90s or so era anime (most the time XB2 has some more modern trends, but imo they're more a front for other more interesting ideas). The combats are convoluted at points, especially 2, but they're really fun for what they are and are worth learning if you like more involved RPG combat. From most to least convoluted gameplay: 2 > 3 > 1.

I'd also consider looking up Tactics Ogre Reborn, it is an SRPG that is like a precursor to FFTactics if you like that game. It is very different in a good and bad way depending on what you liked from FFT, but it is a great game for what it is.

Since it's Nintendo id probably ask for the first party titles, but besides that i'm looking for rpgs, time killing puzzles... Im open to anything if it's good, and cant be bought on any other console
On the relatively cheap side, to take it slow first:
Part-Time UFO
Elechead
Conduct Together
Photon Cube
Pix the Cat
Risk of Rain 1
Xmorph Defense (often on sale with all the DLCs)
Katamari Damacy Reroll (often on sale too - sequel is coming this June)

Also reminder that you can track game sales from your region in Dekudeals, and it makes easier to find eshop stuff there instead of the browser in the console itself.
There is the incoming Golden Week national holidays event in Japan (starting April 29th) so it may be wiser to wait a slight bit before getting anything japanese third-party.

The Blaster Master Zero trilogy is pretty damn good.
Just FYI, the japanese physical of BMZ trilogy has voice-acting exclusive to the cartridge (in addition to already have the DLCs), it's also multi-language so no worries on that end.

Every single enemy in that damn game is a total damage sponge with not a lot of payout in terms of EXP and money. It's unplayable for anyone that doesn't like long battles. That game needs a speedup button like nobody's business.

I blew up basic enemies pretty easily by just instant boosting Cyrus and killing stuff fast with his aoe spells (especially when they were weak to his stuff). I only recalling having slow random encounters at the very start of the game because everyone was weak. I've played far more arduous basic enemy encounters personally so maybe my standards are just different from yours. I found Octopath a breeze to just blast through in maybe 2-3 turns most the time. The bosses can feel spongy at points, especially the boss gauntlet to get to the true final boss, but I've dealt with far worse and I don't see it as that different from the JRPGs of old.

Is Cyrus more of a DPS guy? I started with Primrose, then got H'aanit, then Therion, then... I can't remember, I think I ended up with 5 characters before I shelved it

Cyrus is the typical mage DPS. He has 3 elements so it is usually easy enough to hit something for effective damage, and even if you don't all his spells are aoe so boosting them makes quick work of everything. Literally anyone can be a mage too, so you don't even need him. Therion if anything has dagger weakness murders everything too, Primrose can buff Cyrus so he hits even harder.
