So like I was saying, it’s interesting that when we get down to brass tacks basically Beto and Otterly seem to want a paternalistic, socialist economy that somehow remains closed to immigration and encourages/makes women have more kids then they’d normally have. It sounds like Mussolini’s vision for Italy.

Thing is I don’t think you can easily encourage women to have a bunch of kids they don’t want or don’t think they can support. Hence the declining birth rate and economic contraction. We’re all going to be Japan by the time we’re arguing over chat in retirement homes about whose real name is whose.

Probably not. Either we are going to enter full on Empire mode where we have to have a wide reaching authoritarian government to control all all aspects of life to make sure there is a sane society, which while sane, will not be as free or good as the society we had throughout the last couple decades, let alone since the early 1800s (this probably includes reimposing more conservative ideals on order to ensure the Empire's contnuation, a war chest for rampant military endevors against the other empires of the world (which all face the same problems now) and some sort of government official worship or reverence to rekindle patriotism along with some sort of populism and bread and circuses to quell the masses ). I'm taking this from the broader strokes of the transformation of the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire, which a lot of shit we see today mirrors. The other option which isn't likely is flat out balkanization, but the logistics and the existence of human nature make that extremely unlikely.
