I didn't really watch except for clips on Youtube of the memberberries to get the warm fuzzy feeling without the Kurtzman end-of-the-world bullshit and had a significantly more fun it seems than people watched the whole thing. My takeaway is that while it seems like a better ending for the TNG crew than Nemesis (not saying much), they've screwed up what should be the next step. The 1701-G should be their way of righting the whole Star Trek ship by being a setup for the Next Next Generation with a whole new crew and set of adventures, and instead it's populated by a bunch of people we already know. I know the last time we got a brand new crew we got STD, but come on, I don't want to see Captain Seven and Raffi and Picard/Crusher's son, I want a new crew to fall in love with and open up new stories on the Enterprise. A good producer with Matalas showrunning on something like that could be a chance to win back old fans and push forward, but this just ensures that we'll stay in the same incestuous situation where we can only look backwards.

You know what? This wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it. At least the original characters everyone loves went out with some god damn dignity. It could have been much worse. Look at the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.

I like that even on the finale we all just said "fuck it" to Picard S1 and S2. Leave that romulan bitch on the vineyard, Q isn't dead, and faggotry was at least dialled down a few notches.

I'm optimistic that lessons have been learned and whatever comes after may actually be good out the gate.

Honestly, it really just depends on what distance Kurtzman now has from the franchise. If he's involved, it's right back to the unrecognisable teen-drama shit.

Anyway, at this point in time and as dumb as it is, I'm just happy that the last shot of the Enterprise crew is once again them sat round a table playing poker. For an old man, that's really all I wanted.

Outlaw Star with less fun, no muscle catgirls, and added Whedon quips.
Whoopity shit.
and TNG was just a TOS rehash, tell me something novel for a change

you mean the exact same thing we already got in all good things in 1994?

Yes? It wasn't the only bit of enjoyment I got from the series by far, but it felt like a long overdue course correction.

I liked TNG a lot, I watched it when it originally aired. I don't like to think of the characters being all broken/dead the way they've been for 20+ years. It wasn't perfect by any stretch, but it was enjoyable television.

Speaking of leaving the romulan bitch on the vineyard, I came across this on youtube:

It sums that whole situation up rather well

We don't talk about season 2. Or season 1.
Terry Matalas approached John de Lancie with his idea for the mid-credit scene during the filming of de Lancie's final scenes for season 2. The scene was filmed under heavy time constraints in just 20 minutes.

Imagine having your character killed off in one scene only for another, better and actually competent writer to call you by the side and shoot a scene real quick where they retcon the previous one.
