They don’t appear to know much about each other at all and more crucially, that doesn’t seem to matter to either of them.
There is a moment in a recent blog that highlights, not only how much they care about each other and know about each other but also cements her as being ‘very much above him’ in their partnership. Which is not how, I suspect Salah would like it to be, his name is FIRST on everything, every time.
It’s the moment where Salah says “no you want to sit down I know you want to sit down…you tire..”
The way she replies, the tone of voice and inflection is a dead giveaway. She’s condescending (as if she were talking to a kid) and slightly surprised. “Oh, so you know me, huh?”
The way she said that line was more appropriate for a young tour guide who looks up to his paying tourists, or to someone you don’t know that well, don’t talk with often, feel superior to and still want to encourage that small relationship to get better.
That’s a whole lot to extrapolate from one line, but trust me. Watch the park blog and benches scene where she answers “oh, so you know me, huh? And listen to the subtle intonations. She feels he’s beneath her. They don’t talk about anything. She’s also irritated with him here because she’s embarrassed about having to sit down so much.
A true heart and soul loving relationship this isn’t. Not news. But it’s an example of how dissecting what they say and how they say it…..gives it away all the time.
While I’m semi on the topic, I find it telling that their channel name has to be Salah and Chantal. In the awful, terrible western world, we put our women first out of politeness, and it’s a sign of love and courtesy from the man to put himself second. In the perfect Islamic state…..Man First and Always.
