Luna is so profoundly brain-damaged at this point that I think it's unlikely her body would grow or mature to what could reasonably be considered "adulthood," even if it's alive that long.
Agreed. The fact that she's now smaller than Atlas except for the head makes me think her brain is so damaged that her body cannot grow normally. Since they don't really go anywhere or have contact with other people, it's possible that Luna will avoid getting any serious respiratory infections, which are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among profoundly brain damaged patients. If Atlas is allowed to go to school, that will change in a jiffy, but they could keep dragging her along for years at this point.
Also, nice job not restraining your brand new puppy in the car, Globyn. For his safety and that of the car's other occupants, "Loki Bear"
(Jesus God I hate his name, poor dog) should be in a travel crate or harness.
Even if she did know how to support her head, is there any evidence of memory permanence so she'd remember how?
No, she doesn't have enough brain to remember anything, and she also isn't capable of "knowing" anything. It's difficult to conceptualize how she's "alive" but not really living.
Medfags correct me if I'm wrong, but this is an infantile spasm, right? Since there's the jack knife motion and everything (and we know Luna isn't capable of consciously smiling).
You have a good eye. If I accomplish nothing else from posting on the Farms, I would be pleased if one person learned to recognize infantile spasms and was able to help a child.
Almost all infants with West syndrome, the epilepsy syndrome associated with infantile spasms, go on to be diagnosed with another form of epilepsy. Luna is old enough now that she'd likely be diagnosed with one of these rather than West syndrome. Those jackknifing movements are probably
myoclonic seizures, which are characterized by jerking or twitching movements that only last for a few seconds. Often, though, they can happen in clusters of multiple seizures in a row.
Luna did have an EEG, and Robyn never mentioned it again. I would love to know the results.
