Don't forget about the special "Black Lives Matter" edition of those masks.I think they're aware of this because they seem to all think an N95 is like, the bare minimum and you really actually need like a N420-JOI ULTRA MEGA edition. It comes off as like, iPhone fans who think upgrading to a standard iPhone 12 or whatever from your old 8 means you're probably living in O block and on food stamps because you don't have the iPhone 15XS Deluxe Pro.
It's like they took a good point and instead of listening, doubled down on their bullshit and declared that actually it makes them even more right.
Covid is the progressive's version of 9/11. The obsession with mutual surveillance and moral hygiene, enforced with constant reference to a real crisis and imagined dangers. It’s not just the serial overreactions, the threatening intensity, or the constant reference to dramatically worse events supposedly yet to come. It’s the feeling of mandatory panic, the insistence that anyone who does not allow the crisis to dominate their internal life is somehow guilty of causing it, the desire to blame a disaster on people who are thought to not take it seriously enough.
9/11 too produced a type of proud Cassandra, haughty and contemptuous, who simply lived to let the rest of us know that the rest of us just aren’t serious enough, who believed that the crisis meant that every single moment of our lives was now a test of character, one that we failed if we did exist in a permanent state of anxiety and paranoia.
Hell, progressives are even secretly hoping for even more virulent strains to come out just to prove how right they are. They love that shot in the arm of saccharine morality that comes from being able to say "I'm more responsible than you". They want this to happen. They want people to get sick and die, bodies stacked liked cordwood, just so they can hold onto this sense of moral superiority a little longer.
