There are two paths really: Conservatives embrace polarization to match the tempo of American liberals or get stomped on constantly and lose in dignity. I think there is more resistance to the craziness it isn't reported on to create a narrative that people just go along with it. There has been real efforts to improve things. You have states passing legislation to ban gender conversion surgery. Keep in mind too that what you see is based on what county you are in. Most are more less back to normal and functioning just fine.
