Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

Have any of these indie Pokemon clones ever been any good?
As someone who has played an embarrassing amount of them, I can honestly say no with total certainty.

Not a single one on the App Store is good (which is a given, but a very necessary clarification seeing as the Nexomon series is multi-platform and on there alongside many others) save for maybe Micromon which had the bonus of being released 10+ years ago and no longer available (it has a very very shitty rerelease that's significantly more unstable, but the original was probably the best Pokémon clone on the App market for some time). Almost every single one made via Kickstarter (90% of them) is bad.

What you said is exactly right and it pains me to see a bunch of snooty former-Pokémon-fans taking their rage against the series and deciding to use it to JUST MAKE POKEMON AGAIN but with infinitely more shallow aspects in every regard. They add fan-favorite features like Nuzlocke modes or following mon into their shitty clones while neglecting to remember why people liked those in the first place (self-imposed rules that facilitate story-telling and substantial interactivity with your mons on the overworld). They copy Pokémon's battle style wholesale while adding a singular gimmick solely to differentiate it every single fucking time (be it Fusion, ATB combat with everything else remaining identical, or move-exclusive types in Cassette Beasts, Kindred Fates, and Coromon respectively) and expect that to sell. They add the -mon suffix to their name despite it making no goddamn sense (Nexomon, Coromon, Ploxmons, etc).

These people will whine about being branded clones, but then you look at their gameplay and it's literally all you can see. They graft their own shitty homemade skins onto Pokémon's corpse and then get upset when people see the rotting flesh behind the bad arthouse painting. They circlejerk the greatness of their own genre so hard that they only post their game updates in a discord server centered around a single shitty youtuber milking this gold rush for everything it's worth, then get offended when you mention that the vast majority of these games do fuck-all to advance the genre and are clearly just trying to ride the trend for easy cash.

As of now, all this genre consists of is people shallowly remaking Pokémon with less depth, 0 attention to worldbuilding or tone, significantly worse creature designs and shittier names. There's a few outstanding franchises that've come before all this stupidity: SMT (and Persona), DQM, YKW, Pokémon itself, Fossil Fighters, and a few select Digimon games come to mind; but EVERYTHING else is trash and not worth your time.

Unrelated fun facts: that aforementioned discord server was so desperate to qualify things as part of the genre that Balan Fucking Wonderworld had its own channel underneath the "montaming games" category pre-release because of its costumes. The server is also full of idiots who can't discern obvious tracing from normal art lmao.

Have any of these indie Pokemon clones ever been any good? I’ve never bothered with them because they always come across as hollow imitations. In contrast Yo-kai Watch is a monster catcher with its own identity, and I loved it.

There is an element of brand power there - you could make a wholesale indie clone of a number of older games, and people would lavish praise upon you, but with Pokemon people want the real deal. As such you will probably never find real success building a monster catching RPG with “Like Pokemon, but” at the core of your design.

Nobody can answer that, because the game’s not even out yet. All I can say is the same as Zeke; it doesn’t look to be doing what I wanted it to, but we’ll have to wait and see. That said, no single game is worth buying a console for. If you have to ask that at the end of the Switch’s lifecycle, with everything that it already has, then the answer is probably no
Monster Sanctuary is "okay". If they make a sequel they could probably fix a lot of its problems, which have more to do with the platforming than the battles.

World of Final Fantasy is a Pokemon clone, a damn good one. But it plays more like Final Fantasy. It's mainly indies that seem to fail at Pokemon clones. They try too hard to copy Pokemon closely, but don't have the talent for it.
Oh yeah, nearly forgot about World
why is it that all the good ones are Japanese?

Temtem was an endless well of autism and smugness from the developers part. Scarlet and Violet are better games.
But was Temtem woke?

That's basically the case for 9/10 games imo, at least in genres I like.

doubleposting because this was initially an edit into my old post, but I want to post these here separately because they're funny
these are screenshots from when that entire retarded tracing thing I mentioned was going down
It'll make you lose braincells if you read it, but it's funny enough to make up for it I think

I guess lol
For me it seems more 50/50
America does better comedy (sometimes), Japan has higher quality
at least from what I've seen
granted, I haven't played Metal Gear or Yakuza yet, so take that comedy thing with a grain of salt because from what i've seen of those two series they're both really fucking funny

I‘ve been playing Yakuza 0 and holy shit it’s good, and pretty funny. The first seven games are on Steam right now in a $25 bundle, and though I haven’t played anything after 0, that one game is well worth the price.

mmmfuck now i'm tempted
I have a life to live though
I must resist the temptation...

The original Pokemon animal's writer supposedly had some kind of human vs Pokemon war planned
This kind of bled into at least two or three of the movies; but they've made at least twenty of them across the years and I really don't feel like reading the synopsis on the ones that I missed.
I've never played BOTW cause I never got a Switch. Would you say that TOTK improved upon things that BOTW started with? Is TOTK a game that would be worth buying the Switch for?

Switch Academics pls respond
It kind of is worth pirating, considering how it's basically BOTW, but with new toys to play with.

I hear Digimon is relatively mature compared to Pokemon too, but I'm not super familiar with it, but I guess it shows the genre is capable of more than these soulless dead-eyed anime kids smiling like gen 3 onward.

Everything that The Zekenator said is on the money, and Digimon is so fucking good for it. As for the vidya, Survive is an excellent visual novel with SRPG battles that answers the question of what a monster taming game would be like if your vicious little buddies could talk. The Digimon are given depth that pokemon apologists openly weep in bitter envy over, and the human cast compliments them in a way that feels realistic without losing that comfy honobono vibe. Cyber Sleuth 1 is the route to go for traditional turn based battles more similar to pokemon, featuring a rock-paper-scissors system that trims a lot of the fat without losing the fun. I have not yet played Next Order but I've been told is exactly what people want in a 3D monster raising game vs a monster catcher, big difference.
>TLDR
Digimon is pokemon with better games and waifus instead of furfag bait.

You know you've hit rock bottom when you can't even one-up lamefreak, of all developers.
