Team Fortress 2 Community - A free-to-play dress up game for grownups, gameplay fully automated! Waiting to be mercy killed...

Youtube drama videos are like the ugly retarded child of modern day yellow journalism and those ads featuring celebrity endorsement of products. Even when the person they're criticizing actually deserves you can bet the uploader scrupped them clean of anything negative about "their side" and chose to dramatize everything for views.
Not defending the deranged wife beating groomer being discussed here, but I agree. So, so many of these are just "he said, she said" Discord drama repackaged with a sleek nu-YouTube sheen. It just so happens that in this case the drama is at KF-worthy levels of lunacy.

It doesn't help that it did initially start as "This retard called out an actually good player for cheating so let's see how well he plays" and it turns out he was cheating himself, but then it just snowballed into something so horrendous and ugly that some people don't even know how we came from that, to "literal schizo meltdown after meltdown."

This does not concern the competitive scene.
This was a drama of its own of which nobody is sure what caused it. Some speculate a source leak, causing Kurda to attempt a door knob-assisted ragequit from life. Others speculate valve got a sperg specifically to detect lmaobox, etc.

Fingers were pointed at each other in the TF2 cheating community over this because high profile cheaters and competitive players that used the cheat years ago got banned, but maxbox wasn't.

Every time I boot up Steam I think for a second about booting up TF2 to play it again and shoot the idea down instantly. the only good thing I can say about it still is that I can spam racial slurs in chat and don't get a permaban.

(So I was kind of sitting on this hoping he would actually try to make a move or something, but unfortunately our little sperg has gone DFE and abandoned his steam account (:_()

I checked Venusians steam profile to see if there's a hint of life anywhere, and someone in his steam comments said that he was moving his australium items to a different account. I checked his inventory, and they were all still there, i even checked his backpack.tf profile and confirmed that nothing (last inventory screenshot was early february of this year so that's what im going off of) has moved yet.
I went and skimmed through some old screenshots of his inventory from two years ago out of curiosity, and found that he once had a Conscientious Objector with a decal of a full nude loli having sperm ooze from her privates + a penis in his inventory:

>Why does this matter?
This item proves that Venusian was a pedofork this entire time, and has been a smoking gun that's been hidden in plain sight. If you look at the items description, you can see that it was a Timed Drop, which is proof that this item was freshly dropped onto his account, and that if he was confronted about this, he couldn't claim that he bought it from someone else and not know the decal was already put on it. Meaning Venusian personally purchased a decal to display loli hentai that was saved on his computer because he's into kids for the le epic trolling guise!!1!!!one!!1

And for anyone wondering what happened to it, it is now in the safe hands of some furfag that removed the decal and replaced it with gay pokemon porn, so the day has been saved! :pinetar::

I want to hear BigB shit on TF2 some more. I like his raspy voice and the fact he doesn't take shit too seriously very much. It is a shame because I feel he was passionate about TF2 and that passion brought hate that was delightful.

One of the trends I've seen was making the game more competitive from tf2ubers saying removing random crits, having a casual 6s or tweaking the rules/weapons that match competitive(not official competitive but the community one ). Thinking that will make people come to play the game and Valve to make more content saving the game. Failing to realize what happened to Overwatch which killed it. Or Tf2 gets the case of melee, making the same characters/ loadouts the standard and making the rest useless. Failing to realize that game is designed for fun (being different that the other shooters) and not to be taken too seriously.
I'm sorry for responding to this months later (I'm reading through the thread after forgetting about it for 7 months) but I disagree

I think Tf2's casual is definitely great. It's hard to find a community where most servers aren't populated by sweats. The problem is a lot of people use the "it's casual" excuse to play like a jackass. You get kicked from servers for getting pissed when there's four bottom-scoring snipers and your team is getting rolled. I can't really play casual anymore because the players are so impossibly selfish. It's like they forgot its TEAM Fortress 2. Sometimes being on a Team means you have to be a Team player. And sometimes being a Team player means sacrificing a tiny amount of fun so that you team has a chance.

In response to this I frequently hear "Well it's just casual, it's about having fun!. Let me have fun!". Great pal. I'm glad you're having fun. But if you can't have fun unless you're playing a class nobody needs and you're terrible at, you don't like Tf2. If you don't like the boring parts of gaming and only want a constant IV of dopamine, you don't deserve them. Imagine how boring gaming would be if it was all high moments. So grow some fucking balls and take one for the Team. Switch to Medic or Soldier or something even a retard could do. Hitscan isn't your thing buddy.

I don't think theres a problem with Tf2 being primarily Casual. But there needs to be some alternative for people who, you know, give a fuck about winning. It doesn't make you a "sweat" or a "tryhard" to get pissed when you're losing because a few shitty teammates. Team composition is incredibly important in a game like Tf2, and when people don't understand (or don't care) about doing it properly it makes the game unplayable. Tf2 is unique in it's casual environment, but it's a double edged sword, because it's also unique in the sheer number of people who use that casual environment to excuse being a cunt.

Tf2 needs some kind of viable competitive funnel if it A) wants any chance at surviving the next half-decade B) wants to have a community that isn't notoriously awful to play with. Ironically, I would rather play Tf2 with anybody but another Tf2 player. Some kind of 6's Casual option (Like FUNKe suggested, with a tickbox to make it accessible) and/or a competitive/casual overhaul that makes casual more like competitive and competitive more accessible should be the next major update. Basically Redo everything from Meet your Match, do it right with comp community input. Trickle down balancing works in every game. Tf2 isn't so special that its immune from a universal governing law of FPS style gaming.

My suggestions for making Casual play more like Competitive (to bridge the gap, so competitive doesn't seem so daunting) is to disable random elements like random crits and random spread, and to re-balance broken/retarded weapons. I would also advocate imposing a class limit of 3 per, but I am aware that would be unpopular, but IMO Community servers should be home to super goofy shit like everybody going one class, which would improve community server usage for people seeking that experience, and Casual should be more like CS:GO with similar balancing to Comp but still some goofiness. Up from Casual would be Casual 6's, which is 6v6 but with things like AllTalk and sprays still enabled, and no consequences for losing like Competitive, which would be the learning grounds for people who want to dip their toes into comp. Class limits of 2 seems appropriate here. Finally for Comp I would suggest fully competitive balancing.

Some minor (or major, depending on how you look at it) changes I would also like to see are fully expanded and remastered tutorials. I want to see tutorials for every class done right, and on three levels. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Beginner could establish the basics of a class, Intermediate could explore more complex stuff like movement tricks and engine quirks, and combo moves, and Advanced tutorials could have stuff like advanced movement techniques, high level tactics, tips, etc. I also think there should be practice "scenarios" available for each class, where you can practice certain class specific skills and scenarios, like escaping a bad situation as a spy or keeping your crosshair on an enemy as a scout while moving and jumping a bunch, or jump challenges for soldier/demo. I think completion of these challenges should reward you with a few basic weapons, like completing the jump courses unlocks the gunboats, or maybe a headshot challenge rewarding you with jarate? That I haven't really considered much.

I think the Mann Co. store needs to be redone/revamped. I actually really don't mind microtransactions when they aren't shoved in your face. The Mann Co. store is a great way for Valve to make money on the game. I would like to see the Starter Packs changed from 14 dollars a pop to maybe 99 cents. The worth of every unlockable weapon in the game rounds out at less than a dollar fifty, so charging a dollar for 25 weapons is still a net profit. The lower pricing will make it a much more popular option for new players, and if they end up buying them for every class Valve just made 9 dollars off some kid who would have otherwise used Marketplace.tf or just not bought anything at all.

Finally I wanna see them experiment with advertising. This isn't likely, but this is my personal fantasy wishlist, I can dream. I would love to see them sponsor YouTubers like RAID or throw an Ad on Adult Swim or wherever like they did back in the day. Get the community to make new animations for the YouTube channel. Everything there goes viral. People love Tf2, even non players. The least viewed meet the Team video has like 20 million views. Come on guys.

Thanks for reading my rant. I mostly posted all of this uncondensed drivel here because I'm curious how you guys feel about my suggestions. Wanna hear your thoughts.

I'm a long time lurker of this thread and I decided to make a farms account to say this.
The Xbox 360 community of TF2 is a nearly perfectly kept time capsule of not only 2007 TF2, but the community too. The game is quite dead nowadays to be fair, but up until 2020 I remember getting games on it. Of course, controller TF2 is aids in its own regard but the game has the edge that trannytopia people are working to cull from regular TF2, along with the charm the game had in 07.

As with most abandoned 7th gen console games, finding a match is dependent on time and day. (Weekend evenings being your best shot)

Xbox 360 TF2 got a few patches but PS3 TF2 is a fucking wasteland with hilarious exploits as it's been the same since day 1 of the games release.

I believe there's also a discord server with a couple thousand people where they schedule games on the xbox 360 version if anyone is into that. Otherwise, because of a bug, you won't be able to see active games from the server browser unless you add someone who's hosting a game and join that way.

An update on Venusian. He’s moved on to an alt account where he’s continuing to rent about tf2 YouTubers while pretending nothing happened.

It sucks that no one caught him looking at real CP or doing something more serious because the “he said she said” scenarios and loli porn unfortunately doesn’t stick.

Expect his name to come up again in discourse after he rebuilds his audience.

I think there should be a limit of 3 per class. As hilarious as the meme of the entire team going one class was in 2008, it is not funny the millionth time in 2022
Fuck you
Random crits and random spread should be disabled. Neither do anything for gameplay.
Fuck you
Enable things like sprays and alltalk. Also put switching teams and spectator mode back into the game.
Sure
Valve needs to get rid of weapon skins and all of the ugly, unsightly unusual effects and hats that exist right now
Fuck you
Valve should remove one cosmetic slot, and replace the remaining two with a dedicated hat and a dedicated misc slot
Fuck you
Update the default settings and HUD. Also update and expand the tutorials. Make them more modern and easy to look at
Yeah
Update the Mann Co. Store
Whole store is a scam
They need to fix the maps
Sure whatever
Love me skins, love me class stacks, 'ate uncletopia aka competitive lite. Simple as

Lately there's been an influx of people wanting to either remove or toggle visibility of any weapons or items that make use of the Decal Too.

As you can see many people are not happy with this idea that something that costs money should be removed (Though making a clientside toggle is fine) but it's extremely funny to me this is the hot new "controversy". Something that's been in the game longer than most of the people whining about it have started playing. After all we know how well it went when Valve tried putting a bandaid over the issue with bots micspamming and putting malicious links and doxing people in chat!

I am in complete agreement with everything you just said. Fuck anyone who wants to remove fun stuff just because it isn't competitive enough or some bullshit
Thats a shitty attitude to have. We both clearly have very different ideas of what makes Tf2 great, and whats best for the game's future, but at the end of the day I assume we both want whats best for it. "Fuck you if you think Tf2 in its current state isn't working" is an ignorant take.

I think most of the evidence available suggests building a healthy and large competitive scene is good for every FPS ever, and the only real way to do that for Tf2 is to balance casual more like competitive and offer something (like Casual 6's) to bridge the gap. If you still think stacking classes is funny, go play on a community server. If you don't actually wanna play the game and just wanna dick around, go play on a community server.

I also don't understand why people like you are so aggressive about dying on the random crits/spread hill. You realize they add nothing to the game, with the exception of frustrating moments. Uncle Dane is an autist but everything he had to say about Random crits is 100% right. They don't have a reason to exist in Tf2 as it currently is.

Making casual a little easier to play on for players who want to try wont kill the goofy casual atmosphere that makes Tf2 special. Nothing is stopping you from going friendly, nothing is stopping you from using a meme loadout, nothing is stopping you from lobbying with your friends and doing some goofy shit together. The only difference will be you and your individual play style choice cant ruin the experience for everyone else like its able to now, which I personally think is more than reasonable.

And making the game easier to look at won't kill anybody either. And if you're one of those people who give a fuck about the game economy, de-saturating it by removing low tier garbage nobody asked for will only increase the value of everything else. I think its pretty egregious how far the artstyle has been violated at this point. You don't seem to value or appreciate it, but when the artstyle is consistent it makes the game so much nicer on the eyes.

At the end of the day, we both presumably want whats best for tf2. So instead of saying "fuck you, got mine" because you don't see a problem with the games current state (hemorrhaging players, dying economy, terrible community) at least consider a compromise. There's no reason for acrimony.

Proof that the biggest incentive for having an offensive or inappropriate conscentious objector is to troll imbecile streamers and youtubers.

Trading shitcoins is better than touching the mess that is TF2 trading.
terrible community)
> Implying it has ever been good.
There was a furry infestation even back during the ol' days of TF2, and they were still just as annoying as they are now.

If you don't actually wanna play the game and just wanna dick around, go play on a community server.
Community servers are pretty rancid, you have the option of comp-lite uncletopia and plugin dickery skial (or skial clones).
You can try to host a server with your own gamerules, but now you have the problem of reliably populating it in an era where the average zoomer struggles to navigate the source server browser and just clicks the casual matchmaking button.

Uncle Dane is an autist but everything he had to say about Random crits is 100% right. They don't have a reason to exist in Tf2 as it currently is.
Random crits are fun. That's it.
There's no grandiose balancing reason behind keeping them, no quantifiable data to say this, no objective reason, and thats why the comp side of the community is failing to understand this when all they comprehend is statistics and figures.
They're just fun and part of the games charm. Removing them does make the game more balanced and thats where danes argument comes from, but by doing so you lose that charm and the game becomes just like one of the other 300 objective based FPS games out there.

Imagine removing dice from DnD and just calculating outcomes based on your characters stats - you lose out on the fun moments where someone rolls a nat 20 to kill a powerful wizard with the throw of a pebble you just found on the floor, and you instead get a math nerds wet dream of a game as they can now reliably predict what is going to happen next.
The fun and the mystery of the game is gone in favor of making it more "balanced". That's not going to appeal to everyone and will cause a rift between players.

You realize they add nothing to the game, with the exception of frustrating moments.
Dying is part of the game, take it in stride and laugh it off rather than getting mad at the Internet.
You'll find yourself enjoying the game a whole lot more when the focus is less on playing perfectly without failures.
Nothing is stopping you from going friendly, nothing is stopping you from using a meme loadout, nothing is stopping you from lobbying with your friends and doing some goofy shit together.
That is not exactly what we mean by casual gameplay. Casual gameplay is being able to half ass the game and not have to sweat your ass off to increase some metric, casual gameplay is being able to get away with silly shit, casual gameplay is being able to hop in and leave at any point, casual gameplay is when you're not expected to pull your weight on the team which is why 6v6 casual, a format that heavily leans on individual team members, will never fucking work.

TF2 is unique in that it is one of the few casual-oriented shooters that is still played in the current day, removing that aspect which makes it stand out will just create another overwatch clone where the players are on a miserable rank grind and not playing simply because they want to, but because they have to.
To force TF2 to focus on competitive is a death sentence, not a breath of life. The actual community of the game has shown this with official comp matchmaking flopping after just a week after launch, several competitive features that were in casual matchmaking at the start of MyM being immediately rolled back due to backlash, and community ran tournaments being maintained and played by only a small fragment of the playerbase.

As a reminder, MyM was the update that was made with valve having a direct line of communication with the competitive side of the game, a lot of the decisions made in that update were dictated by them; today it is largely considered one of the worst updates the game has received to date.

I think most of the evidence available suggests building a healthy and large competitive scene is good for every FPS ever,
lol.
lmao.

no one gives a shit about comp in tf2, never did. the game became what it was without it (and arguably worse when it was trying to chase the OW trend). same as battlefield. same as cod. or any other FPS. competitive is and always will be an extreme fringe, pushed by corporations to copy the sportsball racket and retards thinking they will be "cyber athletes" and make big money being more sweaty in a digital kids toy. it's as silly as trying to become a "pro" in beyblades.

and the only real way to do that for Tf2 is to balance casual more like competitive and offer something (like Casual 6's) to bridge the gap. If you still think stacking classes is funny, go play on a community server. If you don't actually wanna play the game and just wanna dick around, go play on a community server.
and that's is why most people loathe you compfags. one: you demand changes for your own little gay club who thinks are the only ones who "understand how the game works" and what you consider "fun", while shitting up the game for anyone else. two: you can never fucking keep it in your pants and everything must bow to your whims for the sake of bAlAnCe and mEtA - which includes community servers, unranked or whatever non-competitive option there is. and that's not limited to certain modes, that includes every.fucking.game. why don't YOU make your own community server with your own comp rules for the people into it instead of the other way around?

instead of trying to ape the average smashfag trying to ban and remove half the game, actual "competitive" also means to work with the constraints that you've been given instead of the narrow view of what the game "should" be. crits is a very good example because all they are is random, but random for EVERYONE. meaning you'd have to include it in your gay little power calculations (which is piss easy btw, RPGs have been doing that since forever). but you just don't want to, so they have to be gone, and since time is money and a dev budget is limited, usually in ends with there being only one option ever. the only reason they aren't in this case is because valve is lazy and let's you handle shit yourself instead of forcing everyone through (ranked) matchmaking.

it was retarded 20 years ago, and it's even more retarded now when everybody had ample opportunity to witness all the failed attempts and how it fucked up games.

if you think comp is the way to go, what about all those games that outright chased the e-sport money and failed? and if comp is where it's at, why are you playing TF2 and not OW2 right fucking now?
