Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

Will they turn the rap into some cheesy karaoke song?
Probably a Mario 64 eurobeat?
Wonderful. It's funny how the movie itself has poor pacing, yet I just watched the whole thing in under 6 minutes and wasn't bothered at all.
The pacing in the movie wasn't even bad at all. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Really? It's like the main criticism the film got. That and the "memberberries" (which I'm not cynical enough to find fault with).
Sure, the obvious references and easter eggs are mighty too high and could be used more as a drinking game. That said, I thought the pacing was nicely balanced. At least they end up going to the overworld by 15 minutes in. It's not as embarrassingly and tortuously boring like Legend of Chun-Li, Assassin's Creed 2016, Tomb Raider 2018, Doom Annihilation or Welcome to Raccoon City.

Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like it was the perfect pacing for a childrens movie but for adults who are *really* into Mario they probably think more shit needed to be explained.

I know I saw someone complaining on another forum that the power ups weren't properly explained and I'm just like "Bruh..."

Plus, it reminds me more of most of early Pixar movies like Monsters Inc. Shit, if the new Mario movie came out as a child, I would definitely watch this a lot.

Box Office Milestone: ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Crossing $1B Globally

Universal and Illumination's video game adaptation is playing more like an all-audience tentpole than an animated family film.

Illumination and Universal’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie is checking off another notable milestone.

The Nintendo video game adaptation will cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office sometime on Sunday, its 26th day in release. It becomes only the 10th animated film to achieve the feat, and is easily the first title of 2023 to do so.

In North America, Super Mario’s projected weekend gross is $37.5 million from 4,204 theaters for a domestic tally of $487.5 million through Sunday. Its projected weekend overseas haul is $69 million for a foreign cume of $533 million and $1.02 billion globally.

The movie has shattered any number of records, including ranking as the highest-grossing animated film in Universal history at the domestic box office after besting Minions: The Rise of Gru ($369.7 million) and the third-highest of any Universal movie behind Jurassic World and E.T. The Extraterrestrial, not adjusted for inflation.

Super Mario continues to play more like an all-audience blockbuster than an animated tentpole thanks to its multi-generational appeal.

Elsewhere at the domestic box office, Warner Bros.’ Evil Dead Rise is impressing in its sophomore outing of $13.5 million from 3,417 locations for a domestic tally of $45 million or more.

Lionsgate’s new offering Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret looks to come in No. 3 with around $6 million from 3,334 cinemas. The film earned an A CinemaScore.

In a fun twist, the rerelease of Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi will place No. 4 with an estimated $5.6 million from only 500 theaters.

John Wick: Chapter 4, another Lionsgate movie, is expected to round out the top five with roughly $4.5 million from 2,481 sites, enough to jump the $175 million mark domestically.

Sony’s Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of The Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of The World is proving to be a disappointment. The movie will fall outside the top 10 with a projected opening of $2.6 million or thereabouts from 3,504 theaters.

Numbers will be updated Sunday morning.

So the Mario movie finally premiered in Japan, but i've heard the Japanese version will have a different script, handled by Nintendo themselves, maybe that was reason why the movie premiered in Japan nearly a month later compared to the US., what do you think they changed? my bets are that they'll replace the licence tracks and probably will change some of Peach's dialog.

I'd like to see a fan sub of this.

I've heard the Japanese version is going to be premiered in some theaters in the US. however...

It would be interesting seeing how they depict Peach here. I like to think Bowser killed her father and that's why she had to be what she is.

It seems there is no changes, it was fucking clickbait all along.

I’ve seen the film three times already (once in IMAX, once in regular 3D, and once in 4DX) and I still want to see it since it’s actually somewhat decent.

Good, it’s miles better than the other family-friendly vidya movies I’ve seen.
I mentioned this in the Disney General thread but The Mouse has a handful of video game IPs they could potentially tap into if it wanted to ape Illumination’s and Nintendo’s success (with Kingdom Hearts being an easy one to do if they can navigate Nomura’s autism and, if I’m being 🌈 as hell, leave the DEI crapola off the table that’s tarnished Disney’s recent films).

I would say except for Sonic 2, but then again I remember how the Tyler Perry-esque scenes ruined the entire experience. Like, the Sonic movies aren't bad, but yea even as kids movies based on vidya, they could've been much better.

The super Mario bros movie should have been a live action film starring Adam Sandler.
Except there was a live-action movie in 1993 with Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi. It's literally been discussed throughout this thread, where Leguizamo threatened to boycott the movie for "muh diversity" and other bullshit.

I know. I’m talking about one with Adam Sandler. Adam Sandler with an exaggerated bad Italian accent. Adam Sandler running around a Mushroom Kingdom with rubber suit goombahs. It would have pissed many sad nerds off.

To be frank, if the 4chan greentext shitpost of Adam Sandler as Mario became real, then nothing will ever be the same as it's even more meme magic.
Imagine if Ray Romano was Mario
If James Gandolfini was still alive, he'd be a great Mario. Not even memeing either. We could've even had Paulie Walnuts as Luigi.
