That's just a made up rumor. There's no proof of that. The book outlines how much he fucked up by having to pay a lot of taxes on the crowdfunding. He also made the terrible decision to film in LA. I'm pretty sure he had to use his own personal money to finish the movie.

We don't know his exact finances but I think it's safe to say he was making half a million to a million a year. Maybe that changed for 2022/2023 with the reduced number of videos and apathy towards all new content.

And then you have how he completely fucked up the movies finances with taxes and shitty spending in LA (which I believe, I don't think that money went to a house, or at worst he used some for a down payment and it ended up going back into the production when he started paying out of pocket)

It's completely in his presented character to make a ridiculously shitty deal with Screenwave and miss out on the majority of the money AVGN makes simply so he doesn't have to *deal* with it.

I think he makes enough to be comfortable, but he is hardly rich. I'd be surprised if he has over a million in total assets to his name tbqh.

I think people are way overthinking the "what consoles did he own as a kid?" narrative. The way he phrased it, it could easily be a game he played at a friend's house. And in Sonic Memories he confirms that he never owned a Genesis but he had a buddy who did and that allowed him to get exposed to a bunch of Genesis exclusives.

It's kind of obvious really... one thing that sucked about the early days of AVGN was his blatant Nintendo fanboyism.

With EWJ my theory/headcanon is just that he played that version as a kid, the internet confirmed for him that it was the "better" version so he went with it for this review.... and seemingly assumed the rule held true for the sequel as well.

(What is the consensus on EWJ2? Last time I read up on it, it seemed like each version had major differences that made them all worthwhile and unique so unlike the first one, there isn't really a "definitive" release here).

I highly doubt that. If that were the case, that Bim really was making that much money, he still wouldn't be doing AVGN. It's clear that the only reason Bim does AVGN still is to make enough money to support his family and muh kids. He doesn't actually enjoy it nor have any pride in making sure it's of high quality. Bim is retarded with money, the AVGN movie development hell proved that, but I don't think he's so retarded to the point that he would continue slogging through AVGN despite having already made millions from it somehow.

I don't doubt that Screenwave would do this, but if that's the case why would Kieren than try and cover up his tracks so much whenever he's talked about Sceenwave after leaving them? Either take the hush money and fuck off, or just drop a fucking video detailing the horrible working conditions at Screenwave. Instead he opts to just rant and whine about it on stream and then try to cover it up after the fact.

From what we know and the verbiage Kieran used then this is a possibility. If James isn't picking the sponsors and is left in the dark to that degree then it makes you wonder who is running things? Because it sounds like he's either an employee or contractor for Screen Wave.
