Still in Ravenholm by the end but another 17 minutes of Freemans Mind is a win. I wonder when he's actually going to utilize the gravity gun? I assume he avoided using it in Ravenholm because it's the spot everyone else generally realizes it's use case. I wonder if he's actually saving it for the destruction of the citadel.
It's clearly setting up to that punchline of Gordon realizing it's actually useful only at the very end.

Good episode, like a lot of cases in HL2 I didn't remember that section to be so cringy.

Our man Ross Scott mentioned Eliezar Yudkowsky's Time magazine op-ed about stopping AI research (along with Yudkowsky's other doom-and-gloom takes about AI) in his recent fanchat livestream. Well, Eliezar Yudkowsky, who has a fairly old lolcow thread here , reached out to Ross and wants to talk/debate on May 3rd.

A couple comments on Ross's website are pointing out he's unintentionally (?) walking into a lolcow interaction. This could be interesting...

I saw Ross's YouTube post about that and was confused by how much argument there was in the comments about it, since I had never heard of Eliezar. I googled him a bit but couldn't immediately find anything insane and then I lost interest.

I should've known to append "Kiwi farms" to the Google search though. Thanks for sharing.

Stream started and Ross's surprise/twist was Yudkowsky requesting him NOT to do background research on him ahead of time. Ross didn't care about this stipulation and is completely walking into this lolcow interview/debate blind...

Oh damn. I hope that even with a bag tied over his head Ross doesn't back down. For as initially deferential as he was to Yud's purported "authority" in his last livestream, Ross was quite explicit in his view that the premises of Yud's arguments are wrong.

That was an annoying 2:45 hours. Ross mostly rambled in circles low-key playing dumb (but I think he was just trying to learn) and Yud was really combative at times and dead-set on his way of thinking (kind of like bigfoot investigators who can only think in terms of "bigfoot is real"). Quite a bit of talking-down too, but that was at least more interesting than the meandering loops that made up 50% of the stream. Some highlights in no particular order:

- Yud was unironically wearing a fedora (lol).

- MULTIPLE times Yud mentioned not to look him up or believe anything anybody says about him (LOL).

- Ross is very much a "green utilitarian realist" in his outlook while Yud is much more of an idealist, which lead to some pretty autistic snipping in parts. Didn't help Ross thinks "big picture" while Yud looks at the AI "issue" in a vacuum.

- Yud mentioned natural selection and reproduction a little bit too much. Didn't help at one part he was going on a tangent saying "and then (humanity) started wearing condoms!" before getting cut off.

- After the YouTube recording ended, Ross complimented Yud's "Hugo Weaving eyebrows" and Yud said he was really proud of having distinctive eyebrows. Saying something like "one of the few physical features he's proud of" (???)

- Chat was pretty based roasting Yud (which Yud could not see and Ross mostly ignored).

Best dialogue:
Yud: "...then we are ALL going to die."
Ross: "Well that sucks."

It'll be interesting if we get some kind of post-mortem especially if Ross looks up Yud more.

Update: Ross had another AI interview/discussion but this time with somebody who isn't a lolcow with a thread here. Jacy Reese Anthis seems more level-headed and Ross seems to think this discussion went well (I haven't watched all of it yet):

New game dungeon dropped. The Legend of Kyrandia 2. It's better than his Kyrandia 1 video from a few years ago (where he experimented with a quick editor and left stuff out), but is definitely a more "meh" episode. This game is one of Ross's all-time favorites (see awards at the end of the video) and he has a lot of love for it, but I think there's a bit of his nostalgia giving him rose-tinted goggles. He did say he was going to have a different episode out, but issues made him fallback to Kyrandia 2 as a "safe" video. Here's hoping the one he had issues with turns out to be a doozy:

I'll probably give it a rewatch later but yeah it's not too impressive, though Ross doesn't go easy on the game and mentions the usual bad design flaws. I never seen a point and click with so many red herrings. Hopefully next episode won't take another multiple months to make.

Ross is clearly invested in the showcased games, but his interest robs us of what could have been some amusing diversions, as he has less need to diverge from the games at hand to fill a script. Still, his passion for the subject makes it entertaining despite the lack of extreme tangents.

For comparison, my favorite racing game review he's done is the Trackmania 2 episode due to his wild speculations about the nature of the game's setting, and Ross's personal musings on what he'd do with "fuck you" money.

Yeah his driving game reviews are some of his finest materials, I liked the The Crew review as well, very comfy. Still a very good episode and it's an interesting subset of games. Though only the first and last games looked to be worthwhile, the games in between were either trying too hard to be 80's or were just lazy.

every freeman's mind clone is just pretending to be ross at the start of the series where it's reddit humor and screaming like this spergfest
i don't think i've seen a clone where the character is fatigued and schizoid like freeman is, they're all copies of each other where they go "well THAT just happened" or rant about something stupid

Man, I remember the time when there was an entire community of different "Mind" youtubers, most popular spin-off being "Barney's Mind". What a time to be on the Internet.

he copy-pasted the lines from the first episode of freeman's mind but replaced freeman with barney
