I made a post in response to a profile comment left by @Brett DeLawyer. Unfortunately the post is so spergy it goes over the character limit, so here it is.

A lot of people will tell it is real. A lot of people will tell you that it isn't real. However, the only way to prove it is to experience it. Hypnosis, therapy, Pick Up artistry, they're all real, all of them. I say this not as a believer, but as a sceptic. Someone who once disbelieved so strongly that they went to great lengths to prove that this was all a load of old horseshit. I won't powerlevel but i spent considerable money and time, not to mention sacrificed more than what a normal person would, just to prove it all fake. It wasn't. Not only was it no fake, what I learned changed my life, a lot and for the better.

Should you believe a guy on the internet? Maybe. It depends on your world view. If I gave you proof of what I'm saying, well, that could be made up as well, or not. However, I will point you in the direction of the start of a deep, almost-too-crazy-to-be-true rabbit-hole. Please be aware though, and this is genuine, if you really go down the rabbit hole, it can change your life and not in ways of riches and fame, but in a way of reframing your mind and who you are, to the point that the people who are around you; friends, family, relationships, will seem strange and alien to you because you see the world differently.

Here's the literature to read/view that has a lot of answers in them.

  • The Game - Neil Strauss. Skip over the common commentary around the PUA culture, there are many books mentioned in his books and many techniques that are all worth reading and following.
  • The full facts of cold reading - Ian Rowland. Mentioned in The Game. A breakdown of how psychic readings work and why people believe them. Very good for leaving a good impression on people.
  • What everybody (great pun) is saying - Joe Navvaro. A textbook showing you what body language means and how to read people.
  • Frogs into Princes. Neuro-linguistic programming session in text form. Any NLP book or video is worth watching or reading. I'll touch on this more below. Any of the Bander/Grinder NLP books are good.
  • Influence and the art of persuasion - Robert Cialdini. A guide on how salesmen do what they do and why it is so effective.
  • Wolf of Wall street - Jordan Belfort. Yep, the same guy played by Leonardo Dicaprio of the film with the same name. Except in this book, Jordan himself teaches his 'straightline' sales technique which uses NLP and sales techniques to talk people into buying your product, whether they want it or not. The audiobook is the best version of this as it is narrated by Jordan himself.
  • Hypnosis - Tad James. A guide on how to hypnotise people.
The above books are not traditional psychology like Freud or Jung, though both are definitely worth reading to understand how brains work. NLP is the proven theory that using language can re-wire the brain. NLP is used in coaching, mentoring, hypnosis and therapy. This is the subject i highly suggest you read into and look into. After that, an NLP course is, if you can spare the cost, a must.

for fun extra reading and studying there is Robert Greene's books; The Art of Seduction, 33 strategies of war and 48 laws of power. These are fun, educational and applicable to real life.

While not psychology related, the most influential and life changing book I have read is Sapiens. I haven't met a person IRL who read this book and didn't change their life and outlook.

To wrap up this sperg post, psychology is real and the classical psychologists of Freud, Jung, BF Skinner, Virginia Satyr, Pavlov, Milton Erikson etc etc explain a lot of how the brain works, why and how to exploit it. NLP is used as a coaching technique aimed at executives and top athletes to improve their performance but can be used to manipulate people into doing some bad things. Hitler, Goebbels, Charles Manson and Jim Jones all used NLP (without knowing it) to do what they did. Salesmen, marketers and advertising companies use the same techniques to talk people into buying products.

Once you see how easy it is to manipulate people, you will see why COVID and the messaging around it was so effective, why clickbait headlines work so well, why social media is a cancer, why those with the 'gift of the gab' are not unique and instead just intrinsically know the ideas behind NLP.

I hope this helps. Thanks for reading my blogpost, don't forget to like, subscribe and upvote for karma!

I know the cure to all "mental disorders". Just think happier thoughts and stop thinking about your problems. Lmao.
This is 100% correct. The less you think of a problem, the quicker those neural connections die and thus, the problem goes away. Talking therapy and discussing problems is a sham.

A problem shared is a problem doubled, is true.
Psychology is a fradulent field of science. Psychologists say all the dumbest shit and are all left-wing parrots. The human mind is way too complex to be understood in a textbook as some kind of collection of set behaviours.
You are entitled to your beliefs, however, this is not an idea grounded in reality, depending on your definition of psychology.

Its an interesting subject for sure, but knowing about psychology won't necessarily make your life better.
And I don't like the whole act of paying to talk to someone, who may or may not know wtf they're talking about. It's basically the same as prostitution.

Here's some psychology: everyone who's really into psychology as a genuine field of pursuit and not just fodder for armchair discussion always winds up being a nut. Tons of female lolcows on this site love that crap. It's just funny because they clearly believe they're some kind of puppet master when they aren't even in control of themselves.

Also I'm a bit lost as to what you were trying to disprove.

Is hypnosis, pick up artistry, etc. "real"? Yes, those are concepts that exist.

Are they effective in obtaining their stated goal? Sometimes, depending on the situation. Are they effective for the reasons they claim to be effective? Very rarely.

Furthermore, don't you think it's maybe a little creepy to spend a bunch of time and money sitting around reading/listening to methods you can use to control people?
Even if that was more effective than simply striving to be a well socialized and emotionally intelligent person, it would be awfully disrespectful, and not having respect for others is definitely not going to encourage them to cooperate. If you want to figure out how people work, then just pay attention to other people.

Idk, I just think this whole thing is very autistic, and I mean that both figuratively and clinically. Like maybe if someone was autistic then this would all be good reading material.

There are plenty of highly-suggestible, highly-agreeable people who I'm sure respond great to psychology - just give them the vague impression that you are an authority figure and that your methodology should work and their minds will make it work.

Knowing about it means you can use the ideas for self improvement or as a guide to work out how and why things go wrong and right. Trial and error, theory and practice. Just like working out how to fix a car.
Don't pay anyone when you can DIY with the info out there.

I used to believe it was all a load of horseshit, but the more I read and questioned the more it didn't make sense. When I learned it all I realised what was horseshit and what was really good information.

I didn't sit around and read about how to control people. I did it to arm myself with information I could use against those trying to manipulate me/us and lots of people do it. Sales techniques are effective, you can learn why they're effective and 'defend yourself' against those techniques. Kind of like learning a martial art or boxing for self-defence and not to go chin a load of strangers. That said, I have used some techniques to 'control' (for want of a better word) some real arseholes that bully and manipulate others. That may sound autistic and maybe it is, but being able to mentally abuse a bully who mentally abuses others is, to me, a bloody good laugh.

I'm not perfect, i have my flaws and even though I've had good intentions in the past, I have really fucked things up and made mistakes. Learning why/how I did what i did has helped me move on and not repeat those mistakes that I didn't know I was making. Improvement mentally, physically and spiritually has made me a better person.

I read some of these books in college. I was very interested in the idea of NLP, but I don't think it's true at all. I think thinking that it is true and working is helpful, though. Can you elaborate on why you think it works or have any examples?
