This might have gotten a reaction in the 80's or 90's or even early 2000's, but in current year when a tranny shoots up some christian kids and then the president comes out the next day to say "Think of how the troons feel", ripping pages from a bible has kind of lost it's edge.

Speaking of which, I have a quick anecdotal story:
In one of my previous jobs, our office had an intern who eventually got fired for gossiping. Long before that happened, he had overheard me joking with our supervisor about how Satanism is just one big LARP. He took offense to this and proclaimed that everyone's religious beliefs are equally valid. He was also openly gay. Hence when I asked him if this means that Christian and Muslim hatred for LGBT was equally valid, he made sure to ignore me then change the subject. I wasn't surprised, to say the least.

Or something more pernicious- they know it's bullshit, but because black people and feminists believe these myths and circulate them through social media, it's "better" to stop using those phrases to avoid causing them stress than to disabuse them of these notions. As if these folk etymologies are being treated as part of a new mythological tradition that should be "respected" just like Halal food and turbans.

I don't think TiaPhD and the U.S. Catholic magazine really thought this one through. Racist characterizations of black males include them being unable to control their sex, and being driven by their penises, and St Augustine famously wrote about how objectionable he thought it was that he couldn't control his penis (it became erect when he didn't want it to and sometimes wouldn't become erect when he wanted it to). So, TiaPhD, that's pretty racist of you to want to turn a guy whose penis was out of control into a black dude.
