I'm tired of being preached about "generational trauma" and how disadvantaged the First Nations are. Immigrants from Brown countries like India, Pakistan, the Philippines or Iran, as well as the Chinks and Nigerians can often find success in Canada despite "barriers" like language or coming from poorer backgrounds themselves. In this day and age, when many doctors, nurses and engineers are from those aforementioned backgrounds despite the wacism in Canada, they have no excuse.
Its not inaccurate to talk about generational trauma or how disadvantaged the First Nations are;
The problem is that people assume that the only solution for generational trauma is
GibsMeDats when basically reparations have failed the vast, vast majority of the time because it actually just gets pissed away, or tribal leaders are corrupt, or its just used to buy random land for various families that never gets developed and youre back to square one.
Theres numerous solutions for generational trauma. Want to know what one was? Residential schools.
Consider this, they came into being when generations of people lost their traditional way of life, and new generations had to be taught how to operate in a Western world. It had mixed results, and not going to get into that.
What I just want to say is "youre disenfranchised, so what, whats your solution?"
Noone is stepping up, people are just looking for a quick buck, and far often than not when a helping hand is offered its spat on (in addition to natives in the West often being their own worst enemies and the ones committing crime within their own community).
"Why dont you care about missing native women!!?"
>Why wont you let us send police to your communities, retards?
The only time Ive ever seen "reparations" work is in the rare case where a rather intelligent group of natives open a hotel-casino or some other revenue generating venture, but a
successful pull off of that is rare.
The other reason why native lands rarely get investment for things like that, real estate, or really anything is that quite often- native land cannot be sold, only leased.
I know that near Sudbury, Ontario- you can "purchase" land in the wilderness on a reserve, but its only leased. At any time, for any reason, the tribe can pull the rug out from under you and just take back the land after its been developed. For reasons like that, and others- so many of these problems are self-perpetuating.
You know how sometimes you just see a depressed lolcow who is wallowing in their own misery and filth, in an apartment full of trash, dying of junk food, and with no future?
Its not wrong to say that they may have generational trauma, or that they may be disadvantaged;
but the same way we laugh at them because they keep making their own situation worse and refuse any help or potential solutions that take the least amount of willpower to pull off?
its like that with natives, at a societal level. I'm not going to laugh at natives, it just mades me either sad or frustrated, but similar place to come from.
You are disenfranchised, but you cant just externalize the source of all your problems, because at some point- you are responsible for how far the problems you've inherited can drag you further down and whether you willingly go down further into them "blaming others" for shit that only you, yourself, can work on and figure out. People should be there to give you a helping hand, sure- but to overcome generational drama, you are going to have to be the primary architect of that, not someone else. Its the same for getting out of poverty, addiction, anything really.
