I honestly think it's naïve to assume Jim is going to pull a medical miracle and somehow live to the age of 80. I remember Total Biscuit made Youtube comments to that effect saying new treatments were happening daily and he was hopeful he would live a long time. A lot of people in this situation unfortunately die very suddenly and it's very sad when it happens. Another example being Stefán Karl Stefánsson who was diagnosed with cancer, crowdfunded treatment, was told his cancer was in remission and died a few years later after it came back. I do hope that Jim beats the odds but I think he's fully aware that the odds are stacked against him and it's probably better to not stress out about the internet in his final days.

The more disturbing thing to keep in mind is that Jim's situation is something most of us will be faced with at some point in our lives. At some point all of us will feel our bodies falling apart and the necessity to relax and take it easy while you still can. Jim is extremely fortunate he has a wife who is staying with him in this dire situation as many people don't.
