That's just a made up rumor. There's no proof of that. The book outlines how much he fucked up by having to pay a lot of taxes on the crowdfunding. He also made the terrible decision to film in LA. I'm pretty sure he had to use his own personal money to finish the movie.

James ironically did very VERY rookie mistakes when making the movie. Hell, one may wonder if he should have made it based on the Nerd and not something original, probably horror related.

I always said that the AVGN movie should have been on a smaller scale with a few sets and creative writing that adapts the humour to the big screen because what works on a webshow doesnt work on the big screen.

He really overestimated how popular AVGN was outside of fan circles since making the Nerd the popular straight everyday man was a storytelling mistake when he should have made The nerd be realistically a drunk shut in addicted with the past with a show thats popular because people "think" he is playing a character but he is not. The Nerd was never a "hero" type character, unlike most in like, Channel Awesome, like to write their characters as. AVGN is at best a very complicated anti-hero since his only good "deeds" are mostly around and for the sake of gaming and most human characters are treated with apathy at best or outright hostility at worst. Tho to be honest, making a movie around the concept of AVGN is very difficult without altering a lot of its DNA (which ended up happening anyway) so it was best to not do it at all.

He should have gone with something original and small scale, people would have still supported him Im sure.
I highly doubt that. If that were the case, that Bim really was making that much money, he still wouldn't be doing AVGN. It's clear that the only reason Bim does AVGN still is to make enough money to support his family and muh kids. He doesn't actually enjoy it nor have any pride in making sure it's of high quality. Bim is retarded with money, the AVGN movie development hell proved that, but I don't think he's so retarded to the point that he would continue slogging through AVGN despite having already made millions from it somehow.

If he had millions, he would have probably concluded AVGN by now. He had many so called "finales" that would have been a good send off for the Nerd but he kept it going.

Its clear that, depressingly, the AVGN is the only thing he did that still produces money so he NEEDS it at this point and his attitude reflexs that.

He really did completely blow his load over the AVGN movie. It makes me wonder if he truly ever believed he would make it in film, or had so little faith in himself that he knew he had to just go hog wild cause this was his only chance to make a "Hollywood Production".

AVGN movie could've worked if it wasn't a generic, albeit insufferable road trip movie with a generic evil scientist subplot. Hell, he should've funded the money to something else than his movie.

I like this idea but it would take a lot of humility to make your self-insert character pathetic like that which I don't see James doing.

Haven't watched AVGN in years. Feeling kinda weird about this.

A dude on the subreddit made this fan-edit:

Did a good job. It makes a point that CURRENT YEAR AVGN can still be short and sweet. To be honest, I think part of what's going on is that the videos are getting longer with more obvious padding so they can cram in more ad breaks and sponsor deals. NB4 they start doing TWO sponsor deals per video.

Holy shit, it feels like his hair was much, much thicker just a few years ago.

I will kind of play Devil's Advocate and say the Earthworm Jim ep was pretty ok as it was, minus the sponsor shit I just skip quicker than AVGN can says "fuck". It helps this is something he actually grew up with and thus had actual nostalgia for it.

Its not like Sonic 06 where its clear he was just doing it because someone paid him to just review it as the nerd because some faggot still thought Sonic 06 hate was relevant (its shit but it has gotten old to explain why its shit)

Am I being retarded or was this thread on another section of the farms?
It keeps getting moved around. It was in Games for the longest time and then got moved here with the plagiarism drama for Monster Madness 2021. And then moved back for some reason a short time later. And then plopped right back here after James/Screen Wave did something else.

His face just say's "Please god almighty kill me now. I don't want to play this character any more and entertain retards that still care about Nintendo games."
It's weird reading/listening to his book, and like you can't believe there could be anyone more profoundly autistic than this guy you're reading about.

Then you realize that there is a whole fanbase fanatical to the guy you're reading about and he is sick of THEM and it really puts where we are as a society into perspective.

Like he claims he didn't even make money off AVGN until well into its life in the book IIRC
His main Youtube channel was ineligible for monetization (I think because of swearing) for several years but he also put his videos up on ScrewAttack which ran ads and for sure gave him a cut of it.

Its incredible how James's hairline recessed in just a few short years. Its normal to happen overtime maybe but feels like after a certain year, he started to lose it in record time, like some genetic time bomb being set off.

At least Doug has the hat to fall back on and thus his bald head is only rarely seen as NC.

I think there is some resentment for the Nerd character, like, he didnt even wanted to do this silly ass character for more than a few times but Mike Matei and the fans just kept asking for more and more and the one time he tries to "branch out", his fans "fail" him by making it a boxoffice bomb (while ignoring that the movie was legit mediocre at best and there was a lot of mishandling in his part). And now that it failed, he is stuck doing this character because his god damn fans will just want it keep going until he dies or goes bald completely (whatever happens first). He NEEDS to do this character now, he has no other choice. He maybe thinks he was tricked into thinking the nerd was way more popular than he actually was, to the point he thought a movie based on the character would earn his ticket into Hollywood.

Its the same reason why many actors grow to resent their breakthrough characters, or musicians with that one song that was the shit for a whole year, because its the only thing that they are associated with now. They are forced to do it it because its the only thing that successed. You can even see that with Wings of Redemption of all people, the way he constantly shit talks his fans and the games he plays and says he wishes his twitch career would fail already (but still will gladly keep streaming and collecting pity bucks), he hates it but he still would prefer to do it over working at retail or something.

James hates The nerd but he knows this stupid character is what is putting food on the table so he has to keep doing it (and honestly I think he lacks the interest, optimism and connections to ever try to make another movie again).

Board James was good but then he killed it off. Monster Madness could've been expanded into him talking about Godzilla movies or horror movies he likes which were enjoyable to listen to. Those videos all did well. He could've done more of that.

He literally did Godzillathon, it was the second or third Monster Madness.
He reviewed all movies available at the time, from Gojira to Final Wars.

But yeah, Monster Madness clearly had a lot of passion in his voice. Not as much anymore.
