Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

Society has monetized being oppressed. At some point we decided that someone is virtuous not because of their ability to go through adversity and succeed, but because they experienced adversity at all. Additionally, we expect people to "grow up" less and less. Another thing I wanna add, people (often rescues) always describe these dogs as "loving couch potatoes", and it looks like that's all they can do for you. I seldomly see pitbulls interacting with their owners the way my dog interacts with me, wags his tail, leans up against me, asks for pets, brings toys, is not afraid of eye contact, etc., social behavior. Pitbulls just... walk around, side eye you, and lay on top of you (probably exclusively because you're warm lol). I feel like they bred them too stupid (to increase pain tolerance and eliminate self preservation ig) to be good dogs and connect with people.

Kathleen Taylor, 35, is being held in Escambia County Jail without bond on a charge of negligent manslaughter -- a second-degree felony.


The incident happened on Feb. 24 around 10 p.m. on the 400 block of Norris Avenue.

The sheriff's office says Taylor's three pit bulls attacked a 63-year-old man at the trailer where he lived. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Sheriff Chip Simmons says Taylor owned the property where the attack took place.

"She chose to have a pet. She took on that responsibility, she failed in that responsibility -- and now a man is dead," Sheriff Simmons said Monday. "What a tragedy. And it could have been avoided had she locked the kennels, boarded up the holes, had them on a leash, listened to animal control or had she cared about the kids in her neighborhood or the visitors in her yard. A reasonable person would have taken proper steps to secure the kennels.

Sheriff Simmons says Taylor left the scene with one of her dogs after the attack.

Officers shot one of the dogs on scene and captured another the next day. Taylor then turned over the third dog later in the week.

Taylor's next court date is set for May 26.

As the investigation into this case was ongoing, Taylor was arrested on April 17 for drug possession. She was released the next day on $5,000 bond.
