If you think Damiel should be kicked out because they bent the rules to bring him back in, then you should equally want Jon to be kicked out because they keep bending the rules to keep him there. I think a big reason shows like this gradually shave off the contestants is that the fewer people showrunners have to deal with the less money they have to spend on them. Food budget for 8 people for six weeks is a not insignificant cost.

It also just makes more drama as people are motivated to be interesting or be booted, and when it's a smaller group it's easier to do larger and more elaborate challenges designed specifically to fuck with those people.
