'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

I am trying to install Mesa3D for Windows 10. I am not sure if I should opt for a premade build or compile one myself.

I want to poke around with Mesa3D for various things and there does not seem to be much documentation on YouTube or elsewhere in terms of its installation and so on. I want to mess around with shaders with BSNES and since my graphics card is not officially supported in Windows 10, anymore I want to see if I can get optional BSNES shaders to work by installing Mesa3D.

How do you view Tenor, Giphy, et al. content without getting visually assaulted by a collage of 5 second looping GIFs that The Algorithm™ thinks is vaguely related to the one you were linked? I hate these websites so much it's unreal.

I have a friend who is in a spot of trouble. They're accusing someone of something pretty severe and they need evidence to help. Unfortunately, the messages that prove what they're saying are temporarily lost. They received them through Meet/Duo on a smartphone with cloud backup on. Their phone committed sudoku over some kind error and basically, he's lost 3 months worth of messages from having to factory reset it. We're trying to retrieve the info but I'm a dumb and Google's FAQs and forums have been zero help. This person obviously has access to all the accounts, so that's not a problem. What we've done so far:

- Checked the Duo history (obviously)
- Checked their Google Drive and cloud Photos
- Opened the DCIM files on a computer

Is there something else we can do or are they fucked? Friend is pretty boring so they're not opposed to paying like a tech service in town to go through their phone for them if that can help, they just don't know if it would work.

Any input is helpful, please.

Thank you.

That sounds stressful, hope you two sort it out. "Google Takeout" will export a lot of user info, additionally it's good for you to have a local copy, backup everything you can ASAP. What type of information are you looking for? An image? A direct message?

computer's internal HD is starting to go, not a crisis-level thing yet, already copied the critical data to an external
what's a good free hard drive clone thing?
I plan to knock out a clone of the drive to the external, get a new internal hard drive, and copy that over.
I need it to do up the system reserved partition and crap too.

This doesn't apply too much to now, but did you think of doing a RAID when building the PC? As for cloning, i just always take it to a shop because for me, thats too much bullshit. Also when that's happened to me, i can barely boot the PC. Though i did do it once when TRANSFERING to a new PC, i just shoved it on a flash drive. Slow, manual, but it works as long as you go thru your files.

no, because I got a pre-owned laptop and jacked up the ram, so that wasn't really an option
I _can_ re-install Win7 for the new drive and put everything back on that way if push comes to shove, but I really wasn't interested in dicking around with finding all the drivers, and I made it a point to actually install Windows and only the crap I wanted instead of the pre-bundled stuff

So you are in the same boat as me lol, a Laptop man. Again, I just go to a shop, but i'd also try what @Kosher Dill recommends if you want to save more than just your files.

yeah this is a refurb HP EliteBook, those silver-plastic tougher-than-usual-but-not "ToughBook" like docs and hospitals use.
had a relative in and out of medical places and saw the beatings they can take, got it as an i7, 2.7gigs, put in sixteen gigs of ram, lucked out on it all on post-Xmas super sale off newegg in the day for about four hundred bucks
it hasn't "lap"ped in a few years, but it's been working fine as a desktop rigged to a tv and a standing desk with a USB hub just about non-stop on for almost ten years

frankly I'm amazed it's just _now_ getting a major problem

but yeah my preferences in order are
magic elves fix it in my sleep
some "push button, receive cloned drive" solution
actually re-installing all my shit (which frankly might not be a bad idea anyway just because of the weird bullshit you build up over the years)
letting other people fuck with my computer

I think the new external I got for evacuating has a drive clone thing but I don't trust pack-in software like that much

Very nice. I get not having others fuck with your computer, with me though, i barely keep anything on it, so even if they look thru it, they won't find much. But if you do, totally understand.

look, just because I recorded myself fucking dolphins a FEW times, doesn't mean I'm ashamed of my hard drive
really it's that I've worked with a few of the local repair joints on radio advertising enough to distrust literally all of the ones I could afford

I should've asked this years and feel like a retard for not asking sooner...but what's the best free PDF viewer for Windows today? Acrobat is awful.

I use and can recommend Sumatra PDF for Windows. Its FOSS and has tabbed reading like a browser that remembers your previous unclosed tabs / documents when you open it next time. If you want others than those recommended here, try something from this list: https://alternativeto.net/software/sumatra-pdf/

My own question: with Pride Month coming up, I was wondering if there was a database of companies that change their twitter profiles to show ''solidarity''? I always wanted a list of woke companies to boycott and that would be a good place to start.
