yeah this is a refurb HP EliteBook, those silver-plastic tougher-than-usual-but-not "ToughBook" like docs and hospitals use.
had a relative in and out of medical places and saw the beatings they can take, got it as an i7, 2.7gigs, put in sixteen gigs of ram, lucked out on it all on post-Xmas super sale off newegg in the day for about four hundred bucks
it hasn't "lap"ped in a few years, but it's been working fine as a desktop rigged to a tv and a standing desk with a USB hub just about non-stop on for almost ten years
frankly I'm amazed it's just _now_ getting a major problem
but yeah my preferences in order are
magic elves fix it in my sleep
some "push button, receive cloned drive" solution
actually re-installing all my shit (which frankly might not be a bad idea anyway just because of the weird bullshit you build up over the years)
letting other people fuck with my computer
I think the new external I got for evacuating has a drive clone thing but I don't trust pack-in software like that much
