Perhaps trying to dislodge Xi's cock from his mouth, he decides to criticize China's high speed rail... for not having stations smack dab in the city centre. He says (and I am not making this up) that China's problem is that they aren't willing enough to displace homes and people to build shit.
hahahaha the only good thing about the bugmen is they know they're bugmen and if they could make their shitty rail 0.01% better by any metric by nuking their own people the bombs would already be enroute.

I often hear people says that an advantage of HSR is that the stations are located in the city center so they’re much faster to get to than to get to the airport.

That’s only true for old European cities that have sprawled around their 19th century train stations. In places that don’t have a long history of rail (e.g. China) the stations are still on the outskirts and in places where the city has grown after the invention of the airplane (e.g. Phoenix and Dallas-Fort Worth), the airport is now in the center of the city. Also, even in Europe, the train station being in the city center doesn’t matter if you don’t live in it, but I guess that doesn’t matter to urbanists because they want to force everyone to live there.
Brightline is a private company so there is almost no way to tell how much its making, or more likely losing although the CEO of there parent company fortress claimed that the railroad made a profit for the first time in march, there's probably a lot of* attached to that.
Fortress was founded by an ex-Blackrock exec:
Fortress Investment Group LLC was founded as a private equity firm in 1998 by Wesley R. Edens, a former partner at BlackRock; Rob Kauffman, a managing director at UBS; and Randal A. Nardone, also a managing director at UBS. Based in New York City, Fortress quickly expanded into hedge funds, real estate-related investments and debt securities, run by Michael Novogratz and Pete Briger, both former partners at Goldman Sachs.
and is currently owned by Softbank (the lolcow of VCs):
On February 14, 2017, SoftBank Group agreed that it would buy Fortress Investment Group LLC for $3.3 billion. The SoftBank acquisition was completed in the last week of December, with Fortress being delisted from the New York Stock Exchange, and returned to being a privately held company.
I suspect that Brightline isn't profitable without subsidies from investors and the government.

I'm glad the people of San Diego are catching on to urbanists.

I've only ever seen drive-through only restaurants late at night (like after midnight), in areas with strong covid lockdowns (for "safety"), and in areas with massive staffing shortages (drive-through needs a lot fewer employees than dine-in or carryout).

Why do they always promote an unhealthy lifestyle like eating fried chicken and smoking pot? If I was an urbanist this would be the exact opposite of the messaging I want.

He could still be American and Spanish is his first language. Being near the Mexican border, San Diego is one of those "Press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish" type of cities.

If you have to be stoned out of your mind to be happy walking around, maybe it's not the walking around that makes you happy.

To be completely fair... that one feels like bait. Fried chicken and pot. Didn't mention the race, but the way it was written, it felt like someone doing some Gay Ops. NOW, if it wasn't, LOL. That person exists.

this is hilarious because whale vagina is one of the better transited cities in the USA, you can literally get from beanertown to most anywhere on the trolley - and some of the places are even not completely shitholes.

the best places, of course, are most easily reached by car, or a bus that takes forever

San Diego is such a bad example and that poster is spoiled rotten. The transport network is pretty well developed and there really is no need to totally dispel cars, which still remain the best way to travel.

Wasn't in a place and time far away, San Diego was purple/less blue/almost red compared to LA and San Francisco?

While McDonald's and Jack in the Box have always both shut off the dine-in after certain hours, sadly, that's a lot more common these days post-COVID. Whataburger used to have dine-in all night (now they do not) and a lot of diners no longer are 24 hours.

We all know that these twerps marched in lockstep with all the COVID bullshit 100% and deserve the world it created.

/r/fuckcars hates walkable shopping districts:
Remember, a lot of these people have no disposable income, so something like a mall with expensive or kind-of expensive stores is bad because they can't afford it and it's just sour grapes.

I should also point out that many "farmer's markets" with local gifts and food items are hideously expensive compared to supermarkets and just as expensive as the mall itself. You can, of course, usually get bags of cheap produce at flea markets or adjacent areas, but that's not "cool".

Unfortunately, his post history includes a lot of Portland stuff and /r/AskALiberal without any sign of obvious baiting.

Yes. San Diego was a big millitary town, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, MCAS Miramar(Top Gun), NAS North Island, Naval Base San Diego, Camp Pendleton up the street, probably some I've forgotten.

The problem is like many nice cities, the Californians started to move in and shit up everything.

Whataburger and Cookout are the only two places around here that retain their 24 hour dine in. Everywhere else usually will serve me on my scooter or motorcycle but won't on an ebike and especially not walk-up (altho Cookout in particular has a provision for walk-ups due to servicing a lot of college groups late at night)

That said, I wouldn't want to use any of those methods because on two wheels it's pretty hard to eat while you drive and you get harassed by the homeless people these people love so much if you try to eat it in a parking lot. Leaving out walling because harassment from the homeless is just implied if youre doing that.

If I'm getting some late night munchies I'm doing it in a car and nothing else. Dine in was great while it lasted but due to massive amounts of crime involving unhoused drug addicts I can't blame them for not putting up with it.

The military bases have been part of the reason the transit is good, they not only provided large job centers, but also put some natural constraints on the city itself, building a bit of backpressure allowing density to develop.

place is overrun by los angelees now

Sigh. The stereotype lives on.

Dude I miss being able to get up early and get a Eggmcmuffin. Utah is low crime, my area VERY so, yet they dont do the 24 hour stuff anymore. If i wake up early on a Saturday for some reason, well fuck me. Even with my superior car, I have to wait till seven lads.

Only Boomers, Faggots and Niggers live in cities.
Yes, there is a Venn Diagram of overlap.
That being said, I've bicycled my whole life. Put on a pack and cycle 30 miles in a day, take/pick up only what you need.

Lmao .Welcome to reality of public transport you are lucky if you have to wait 30-60 minutes for bus . And trains are even more limited than buses.
Also good luck if you want to travel between 22:00 and 4:00. You will have to wait or walk.
And I am from one of those European countries

But clearly this just means we need to run more buses and trains, even if it doesn't make economic sense to! Nationalize the railroads!

I kind of figured that his experience with European mass transit was solely through NJB and other propaganda experiences and had never experienced it in person, not even as a tourist.

There's a reasonably good chance that the meme was made tongue-in-cheek, yet these retards are completely taking it at 100% face value. Unbelievable.

Just an age old law of internet community dynamics at play.

The adage of "you can't do something ironically for too long before you become that thing" is something I used to to hate because shitlibs would use it to claim anyone who made edgy jokes was en route to becoming an actual nazi. But now I think I see the wisdom in it. It's basically a re phrasing of "ironic shitposting is still shitposting" in a way. People ironically post stupid shit for fun and then when new people show up who don't realize it's a joke it paves the way for genuine idiots to take over

Someone makes a joke post about something innocent being insidious propaganda and the clueless idiots take it at 100% face value. Redditors are so predictable.
