So I watched the puppy mill video. And while informative, it was a lot of "woe is me" and Blair trying to make herself out to be a saint for saving Casper. And it's wonderful that she had the financial means to save his life. But she just had to have a samoyed and her reasons were pretty selfish. She says her roommate was allergic so she needed a hypoallergenic dog. Samoyeds being hypoallergenic is iffy. I assume if you contacted a puppy mill and asked about the dog they'd say yes to every selling point they could just to get that sweet green out of you.
If your roommate is allergic to dogs it's very selfish to get a dog. Maybe wait until you live alone before doing that.
Blair also states that her father is allergic and she wanted a dog he could be around. She then states that her sister got a dog that her father is allergic to. Her tone made me wonder if there's some rivalry going on here.
Yet, Wonder brought his dog there with him. I don't know what kind of dog it was. Does that mean the other roommate was gone? What about Blair's father? If he visited often then wouldn't Wonder's dog be a problem? And she got the rescue dog, who looks like a garden variety mutt. There's no guarantee that she would be certified hypoallergenic (which is not exactly a 100% thing anyway).
Bottom line: She wanted a trendy breed. She got a trendy breed.
It's kind of strange too because Blair also mentions seeing a samoyed puppy at the pet store and not buying him because the poor wage slave couldn't verify papers. So you left him there? Yet got a puppy mill dog anyway. If this story was true then Blair just passed on one puppy mill puppy for another and in the end it probably didn't make a huge difference. Because later on she talks about pet store puppies that died from parvo and pneumonia and were also riddled with parasites. I have a hard time believing someone who has a Youtube channel specializing in scams and corporate corruption wouldn't know that the AKC was evil and greased palms. Yeah. She just had to have a samoyed. Blair's way or the highway.
Apparently the entire litter had giardia and hosts of other gastrointestinal problems. I'm inclined to believe most of her story because of where Casper came from. She says she contacted people on reddit who had puppies from the same litter. No word on if they all survived. I assume if even one died Blair would have used it to boost herself up. So hopefully they all grew up ok.
Casper has lifetime health issues due to having giardia likely from birth and being shipped out full of parasites. So he suffered for nine of his most vulnerable weeks before he ever saw a vet. He's on prescription food for the rest of his life because of irreversible intestinal damage. His growth was also stunted. Giardia can be fatal in young puppies due to the amount of diarrhea it causes. This is why Casper came several pounds underweight. Looks like he had a ton of parasites. The conditions must have been horrific.
Blair also claimed she looked at rescues but all the samoyeds were snapped up as soon as they arrived. There are other hypoallergenic breeds. But here you are trying to get a purebred rescue during the pandemic.
