VTuber Pikamee retires from streaming after trans pushback over Hogwarts Legacy

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I don't even watch vtubers but I found out about Pikamee about 2 months before the troon shit. I watched her entire playthrough of GTA: San Andreas, I watched a lot of clips too then I got maybe 1/3 into her playthrough of Alan Wake before she was taken from me. This will have repercussions. Not today, not tomorrow, years or maybe decades will pass but eventually there will be a retaliation.

As someone who was aware of the emergence of V-Tubers but never until now paid even the slightest notice, I have so many questions. I guess the first is if the above is serious. You'd think not but there was a US senator who thought islands could tip over and I've know people irl who had this level of understanding so... maybe? But I also have technical questions. Is the avatar moving its head around in response to the real person's with some webcam software? Does the streamer have like a control deck to make the avatar do things like blush in the video above? Is this actually a Japanese kid or am I watching some 40 year old man with a voice filter app?

The above is literally the first time I've actually bothered to watch a Vtuber and now I just want to know all about it.

Also, if Pikame is serious then "what is behind the Japan" and "there's a giant loot so the Japan doesn't go away" is seven different kinds of hilarious.

They aren't serious, they just act dumb because being innocent and childlike is super kawaii and cranks their audience's gears. They all do it. Even the Vtubers who use adult models talk in nasally voices like they're children; then again the "I'm a pure widdle girl desu" nonsense seems to kind of be more prolific in Japanese culture so maybe it's unfair to call out the Vtubers specifically.

For the technicals, my understanding is that you're correct. I have to admit, the orientals really have a lock on these types of video software.

As for who they are, they aren't supposed to be kids. They present themselves as real life grown women, who pretend to be kids. All the supposed Vtuber "doxes" I've seen show them all to be stereotypical early-mid 20s Asian girls.
Other haters tend to insist they're all dudes, personally I'm willing to believe they're (mostly) actual agoraphobic Asian women.

wrong thread to ask because you get people who have zero clue.

the first big difference is that a 20yo something hikki girl can get away with not knowing how fucking islands work compared to a middle-aged politician high up in the government. least of all the first is kinda cute, while the latter is just embarrassing.
in general people are uneducated, sometimes even about basic shit like geology because they never ask and it's simply not important to them, that's just how it is. some people can turn that into content for others to enjoy and laugh about. and don't forget about zoomers with all the shit they don't know...

for the how, they usually us a phone. it has the right combination of camera (not sure webcams with that resolution even exist) and software for tracking and image recognition.
that tracking data then gets fed into a 3d or 2d model (pikamee's is 2d, it's rigged via scaling/moving the individual parts) to behave like the person in front of it. some stuff can be tracked (like mouth for example), other's have to be enabled on purpose. there are more expensive setups, or jerry-rigging with VR for full body tracking (think vrchat) if it's not a full studio for live performances etc.

as for the who, 99'% are all female. what most people don't understand is that it's just a stream here or there, it's multiple hours almost every day, for months if not years (pikamee debuted march 2020). so not only would any dude need to keep it up convincingly (and a voice filter is pretty obvious, if not what and how he talks about stuff), inevitable part of the person behind simply gets through. it's always funny when someone says it's just some dude or a twitch thot, but imply they are full schizos or thespian method actors to keep it up a character for all that time.
for the same reason most e-thots and your average twittertard have almost no following, because they don't have the enjoyable personality and character to watch, the cute anime model only takes you so far. people got angry over pikamee because she is just a kettle wanting to have fun. they mostly keep politics out of their stream if not outright NSFW stuff. for example pikamee hardly ever used adult language or swearing - compared to western media shoving that shit down your throat and think using fuck over-inflationary makes dialog more "mature"...

how it all started...

yeah, no. for one most don't use a kid avatar (unless you're one of those "anime = all children" speds like jason schreier), even the outfit in the video is not her original model. and let's not get into chibi which is also a style she used.
as for the voice that's also wrong. yes, it's often used because it comes from anime, which itself comes with certain expectations, but people are aware of it and some don't do it on purpose (either because they don't want or can't). depending on the voice they simply change it because they can't keep it up for all streams and it literally affects their health. it shouldn't be surprising that a 5 foot woman doesn't run around with a baritone - but you still get people like kronii and risu (who even made switching the voice part of her character), or fauna who just makes it work.
plus there's also a reason most animefags prefer subs, anyone non-japanese trying to speak in the same tone is just cringe most of the time. even japanese don't do it all the time, your name used the actress' natural voice, which then got changed into anime-voice in certain dubs.

@ZMOT Thanks - that was very informative. Well, I can say that she's very entertaining to watch in the clips I saw. "What is behind the Japan" still cracks me up.

slight update (probably the last one since the happening is over)

pikamee redebuted almost 2 months, and going by the numbers the whole troonfit was a complete failure. not only does she now pull around 5000 viewers on twitch (iirc her numbers before were not even half of that, maybe even less than a quarter), twitch is not very popular in japan. for comparison nazuna (former hololive and one of their biggest cashcows) gets around 2-3k on twitch, while streaming on sporadically youtube pulls easy 12k viewers, as another character even.

congrats retards.

that's how you fall down the rabbit hole. first you come for kettle antics, then you stay for doggo noises and the eating habits regarding peperoni pizza after eating tarantulas on stream before.

That is like video crack. I click it and it's so hard to stop. Why is this so entertaining?

EDIT: "Pepeloni!" :D :D :D

She also streams significantly more than she did as Pikamee, going up to 10 hour streams each and everyday. She also seems much happier now with a solid support group behind her, so it's good things ended up working out for her in the end.

sounds like the trannyrage was manufactured by vtuber fans then. She planned to go indie anyway.

This is an odd byproduct of modernity.

A vtuber is a (lewd or not) fun girl to hang around with. She isn't demanding like a twitch thot nor stuck up like your average girlboss.

She is an entertainer who makes funny or cute noises. Since the 2d avatar is anonymous she can say whatever she wants, unbound by societal or sex-based constrictions.

So it ends up as funny autism most of the time.

The Tranny rage was definitely real and anyone claiming otherwise either wasn't paying attention or is in deep denial...or was one of the Tranny's or their allies and is trying to deny their bad actions after the fact. Everybody saw what happened. Its all over the internet for anyone to find and plenty of people documented it.

Justice is not always swift. Crossposting to this dead thread to memorialize it.
So turbotroon Marina (the one that was part of the Pikamee harassment during Hogwarts Legacy) was trying to abuse that new "topless meta" while not reading any of the rules and they ate a ban.

Likely a temp ban as always but apparently those actually really hurt streamers according to Thor
Background for those unaware now or in the future, twitch made the big brained decision to change up their policies on nudity. At the time of this writing you can wear a strapless bra and position the camera so it looks like you got your tits flat out. There's some stipulation to it but that's the gist of it. What you can't do is have full on nudity, top or bottom, even as a virtual avatar. Fucking troon fucked around and found out. Eat shit and starve.
