Business Target holds 'emergency' meeting over LGBTQ merchandise in some stores to avoid ‘Bud Light situation’ - Some southern locations move Pride displays, apparel away from storefronts

Some southern Target stores were forced by the corporation to move LGBTQ Pride merchandise away from the front of their locations after customer "outrage" to avoid a "Bud Light situation." Many Target locations across the country feature massive June Pride month displays on an annual basis, with items this year ranging from "tuck friendly" bathing suits for transgender people to mugs that say "gender fluid." But the retail juggernaut has been criticized by some conservatives for the displays, with children’s items particularly irking many customers. A Target insider told Fox News Digital that many locations, mostly in rural areas of the south, have relocated Pride sections to avoid the kind of backlash Bud Light has received in recent weeks after using a transgender influencer in a promotional campaign.

A Target insider said there were "emergency" calls on Friday and some managers and district senior directors were told to tamp down the Pride sections immediately. "We were given 36 hours, told to take all of our Pride stuff, the entire section, and move it into a section that’s a third the size. From the front of the store to the back of the store, you can’t have anything on mannequins and no large signage," the Target insider said. "We call our customers ‘guests,’ there is outrage on their part. This year it is just exponentially more than any other year," the Target insider continued. "I think given the current situation with Bud Light, the company is terrified of a Bud Light situation." The insider, who has worked at the retailer for almost two decades, said Target rarely makes such hasty decisions. They said Friday’s call began with roughly 10 minutes on "how to deal with team member safety" because of the amount of backlash the Pride merchandise has generated, noting that Target Asset Protect & Corporate Security teams were present on the call.

"The call was super quick, it was 15 minutes. The first 10 minutes was about how to keep your team safe and not having to advocate for Target. The last five was, ‘Move this to the back, take down the mannequins and remove the signage,’" the insider said, noting that bathing suits have replaced Pride merchandise in front-of-store displays despite Pride month not even starting until June 1. "It’s all under the guise of trying to increase swim sales," the insider said. "Everyone was like, ‘Thank God,’ because we’re all on the front lines dealing with it." Target did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Fox News Digital has confirmed rural Target stores in South Carolina, Arkansas and Georgia are among the locations to move the Pride sections. Most rank-and-file employees were left in the dark, with many not knowing the Pride sections would be moved until they noticed it themselves. Pride merchandise remains prominently displayed at other locations and on the Target website. Target Pride merchandise includes female-style swimsuits that can be used to "tuck" male genitalia. Some products are also labeled as "Thoughtfully fit on multiple body types and gender expressions." Pride merchandise also includes onesies and rompers for newborn babies, a variety of adult clothing with slogans such as "Super Queer," party supplies, home décor, multiple books and a "Grow At Your Own Pace" saucer planter.

Bud Light sales have plummeted since backlash to the infamous partnership with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney continues to haunt the company more than a month since it came to light. The issue began when Mulvaney publicized that the beer company sent packs of Bud Light featuring the influencer’s face as a way to celebrate a full year of "girlhood." Mulvaney is one of many social media influencers Bud Light has tapped to promote the brand. Mulvaney said the cans were her "most prized possession" on Instagram with a post that featured "#budlightpartner." A video then featured Mulvaney in a bathtub drinking a Bud Light beer as part of the campaign. Some consumers mistakenly thought the cans with Mulvaney's face were being sold to the public. "Bud Light learned an important lesson about wading into the culture wars recently. But partnering with Dylan Mulvaney is nothing compared to what Target is doing," conservative pundit and author Bethany Mandel tweeted.

A company....actually kinda reading the room for once?! Consider me shocked.

I'm increasingly realizing that in 40 years time I'll be talking to my son like I talk to my dad about the 70s. "Was it really like that back then??", "Yep, crazy times".

Unironically I feel like this. Megacorps run rampant, there's a entire month for ass fucking, a beer brand shit itself because it hired a dickless man in a dress, and Target took this as a threat to its buisness model. Our kids won't believe any of it

The only reason I ever shop at Target is because being inside my local Walmart makes me legitimately want to die.
My experience with the Walmarts and Targets in my area is the people shopping at Target are less disgusting, but somehow the products and shelves and everything at Target looks lower quality. Maybe it's the store lighting, it's much harsher at the Targets for some reason

The real issue here is that Walmart and Target are the reason family business are a rare thing now. All those people who demand higher payments could have been now working for their own family little business where they decided how much money to make and how. You replaced the safety that was that your family had their own little store where you could always work for and make your own schedule to accommodate time with minimal wage, employment insecurity, and an expensive diploma you haven't yet paid. It's fitting they are demonic.

And even so, even with all their money, they couldn't hire some marketing "executive" telling them "mhh...maybe selling satanist gay trinkets to rednecks isn't a good idea". Any uneducated rando from the region could have told you that for free. Consider that a lot of this failure are in fact the marketing department not doing their job. They don't know their market, they want the change the audience. That's not how this works.

(PS: I support a thread for that queer satanist cow. Now he's famous, he might start to sperg and it has potential.)

whatever you say, meat target.

has target not always been slowly swirling the drain? any time i've been in one half the shelves are empty, they all have this weird unnatrual smell like mold made from plastic, there are like three people working there, and i haven't seen those huge cups with the dividers for three seperate drinks since i was a small shitty kid.

I would be surprised if all the backlash was just from rural Americans. My Target had a onesie that said “Bien Queer” (slang for like, “really queer” or “super queer”).

No infant is queer. Fuck right off. I’m guessing 90% of Spanish speakers probably agree, which leaves me baffled as to who the fuck it’s for.

These fuckers need to face the wrath of Abuela’s chancla.

Let’s have a display that is literally and specifically about sexuality and shove it with merchandise aimed at babies and children. Good move Target.

God willing we have passed the high water mark for this bullshit and next year’s June will be a little less colorful.

Odd that a few boycotts are apparently enough to be newsworthy and panic worthy, the left has been boycotting shit for as long as I can remember including boycotting businesses for losing to boycotts (the left doesn't believe businesses should be allowed to fire employees when they go out of business).

Well, since the topic came up here I have to ask: how the fuck does a tuck friendly bikini work? I saw a couple videos of them existing but no explanation.

From the tag it looks like... There are arrows pointing in and out at the crotch, inwards for tuck friendly functionality and outwards for coverage? Are there extra layers in there that can be fooled in and out like shirt sleeves, you fold the extra cloth in for a sluttier look that is thicker/stronger and holds the penis in place, or you unfold it to get proper coverage? Is that what it is? But who would ever use that, don't they know real girls would just buy more clothes instead of getting one convertible?

He still has his dick, Budlight couldn't even be bothered to find a Troon willing to fully commit to the bit.

Walmart uses blue lighting, Target uses yellow lighting. Lighting temperature is known to affect the shopper/guest experience and HQ will choose accordingly in order to curate how the business wants the customer to feel. People trend towards one or the other generally.

Target really suffered during the scamdemic, to the point where some stores are still struggling to recover (I was in a Target by my parents place not too long ago that was completely wiped out of baby formula and a bunch of other stuff). And most of the cafes have been replaced with Starbucks. As a kid going to target meant I got a giant pretzel if I behaved in the store.

NEW YORK, May 23 (Reuters) - (This May 23 story has been corrected to fix the spelling of Carnell's first name to Erik, from Eric, in paragraph 8)

Target, which rolled out its Pride Collection at the start of May, is pulling some products from its stores after facing customer backlash, saying it was acting to protect employee safety, the company told Reuters on Tuesday.

Target Corp (TGT.N) is offering more than 2,000 products, including clothing, books, music and home furnishings as part of its Pride Collection. The items include "gender fluid" mugs, "queer all year" calendars and books for children aged 2-8 titled "Bye Bye, Binary," "Pride 1,2,3" and "I'm not a girl."

"Since introducing this year's collection, we've experienced threats impacting our team members' sense of safety and wellbeing while at work," Target said in a statement.

"Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior," the Minneapolis-based retailer said.

Target has been celebrating Pride Month for more than a decade. But this year's collection has led to an increase in confrontations between customers and employees and incidents of Pride merchandise being thrown on the floor, Target spokesperson Kayla Castaneda said.

Target's action comes on the heels of a conservative backlash against Bud Light, after brewer Anheuser-Busch promoted the beer on social media last month with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

The products Target is withdrawing are being removed from all its U.S. stores and from its website, Castaneda said.

While various Pride Collection products are under review, the only ones now being removed are the LGBTQ brand Abprallen, which has come under scrutiny for its association with British designer Erik Carnell.

Carnell has faced social media backlash for designing merchandise with images of pentagrams, horned skulls and other Satanic products.

A search for Abprallen merchandise on Target.com on Tuesday showed "0" results.

Screenshots and posts on social media show that Target previously sold a $25 slogan sweater with the words "cure transphobia not trans people" and an $18 "too queer for here" tote bag.

Target is also reviewing certain transgender swimsuits and children's merchandise, Castaneda said, but no decision on those products has yet been made.

For example, a swimsuit sold in the women's section has come under scrutiny for the way its fit was described, as "tuck friendly," highlighted its ability to supposedly tuck male genitalia.

A Fox News report earlier on Tuesday said that some Target stores in Southern states were shifting Pride-related merchandise away from the front of stores. An employee at a Target store in Arkansas told Reuters that they had shifted Pride-related swimsuits deeper into the store.

"We had swimsuits in the front.... but now they are in a random area in the back now," the employee, who did not wish to be named, said. "We started shifting the merchandise on Sunday."

Reddit is having a melty that this is giving in to terrorists

The guy who founded Target was a devout Christian who wouldn't let the store sell alcohol or be open on Sundays. 🤷‍♂️
:story:

They sounds like Chick-fil-A, which has always had to deal with boycotts over the rainbow, and is still doing fine today. Sure, Chick-fil-A might not be doing as well as they want to be after cucking out, but the sandwich shop managed to piss off both sides of the aisle and they're still around.

Target, calm down, you might get a smaller customer base but it's not like you'll go extinct. Calling it "backlash" doesn't make your story any more herioc than Chick-fil-A, which still operates to this day.
