Live Action Little Mermaid

I am not the intended audience (although I like Disney animated movies) as I will happily re-watch the animated movies and have zero interest in live actions.

The casting was wrong also because I am pretty sure that the desired audience, the adults with nostalgia who now have kids, do not know who Halle Bailey is. The kids probably don't know either.

I don't really care about making Ariel black. Idk if it was artistic choices by the directors/producers or she is just not a very good singer, but the songs are not good. She can obviously sing, but it just sounds like generic pop music, there is no "oomph"

New [2:09-3:15]:

Original [1:55-2:50]:

The new version is like pretty much anytime Disney hires mainstream singers - there is too much faffing around to show "how good of a singer they are" (e.g Christina Aguilera - Reflection (2020) (From "Mulan" VS Original, Demo Lovato trying to sing Let It Go is better completely forgotten)

The same section [in brackets] that lasts 55 seconds in the original, is about 10 seconds longer in the new version. The videos are a bit longer than the song, but undeniably the new version is longer, why? It's boooring.

They made Under the Sea boring, too!

The CGI is also TERRIBLE! Why is something hand-drawn decades ago more visually appealing than something made in 2023? Water is notoriously bad to do in CGI - this is as bad as I expected.

Instead of the end being Ariel joining into Eric's kingdom they both decide to WindWaker it and become sea nomads exploring for new adventur
I hope this is a joke.

Ariel's mother now was killed deliberately by a human.
So, do humans know about mermaids/mermen?

The final is a rap song by Scuttle about Ursula's plans for the finale.
This? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKlQu_p97KI&list=PLXaH20eIS38YyOU2A0K0tbALVuxRVEkn-&index=10
Not even the youtube comments can justify this, and they sing the praise of the other songs... JFC it is BAD

The intro score is okay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4nw7mQk7rA&list=PLXaH20eIS38YyOU2A0K0tbALVuxRVEkn-&index=16

Disney spergery done (for now)

I hope this is a joke.
"Earlier in the film, Eric is facing a conflict with his mother, Queen Selina (Noma Dumezweni). The Prince wants to explore the uncharted seas, but the Queen thinks it would be best if they kept to themselves and the rest of the kingdom. It's not all that different from the initial position between Ariel and her own parent earlier in the film. In the end, Selina realizes her son is capable of making his own decisions, and gives him and Ariel the ability to travel the globe on their own ship, looking for plenty of new adventures in uncharted waters on the high seas."

Whats funny, is the company thats promoting the South Korean Voice actress, looks like they are trolling on their official TikTok soundtrack previews.

I can't believe that after 2016, the idea of race/gender swapping hasn't been treated as BS by the general public a whole lot sooner.

It's not that I give a shit about a black mermaid, but I think the conversation surrounding it is preposterous.

The one that gets me is the adults who sit there all "my little girl gets her own mermaid now!"

Your little girl needs you to be a better parent if you think she somehow needs her own fucking mermaid, in the sense that if a black mermaid weren't even on the table, you wouldn't have cared either way. But since there IS one, and it's somehow important to you, it's because you're a shit parent that needs to direct your kid away from the TV.

Well I've seen a lot of people shit on this movie because of the race swap shit

This is the real fucking tragedy of this movie
Shit CGI and shit plot, without the culture war controversy it would have been universally hated/forgotten. At least now they get some people watching it...

People talk about book to movie adaptations, but going from animated where everything is possible to live action is basically as difficult.

Disney, however, is actively trying to fuck things up

HOLY SHIT, I just bothered to watch the trailer... HOLY SHIT. If anyone like me was a lazy fuck

Pretty much a shot for shot remake of the animated movie, however there were a few differences.
  • Obviously niggers everywhere. They tried to be "inclusive" with the merfolk and have each of Triton's daughters be of a different race. If that's the case, just keep Ariel the same and make another movie about one of other ones. No need to negrofy the classic.
    • Screenshot 2023-05-28 093242.png
  • They changed the lyrics to a few songs.
    • “Go on and kiss the girl,” changed to “Use your words, boy, and ask her.” Not a big deal. The thing that's funny to me is that at no point in the movie did he ask her though. So, I guess the song didn't work because the kiss scene when she turns back into a mermaid and the scene where they kiss, no consent was given. lol.
    • Screenshot 2023-05-28 100006.png
    • They removed this verse from Ursula's song. “You’ll have your looks, your pretty face, And don’t underestimate the importance of body language, ha! The men up there don’t like a lot of blabber
They think a girl who gossips is a bore! Yes on land it’s much preferred for ladies not to say a word And after all dear, what is idle prattle for? Come on, they’re not all that impressed with conversation. True gentlemen avoid it when they can, But they dote and swoon and fawn, On a lady who’s withdrawn. It’s she who holds her tongue who gets a man." I guess I get that they feel the song suggests to girls that they should shut up and look pretty, however, this song is coming from the villain. so...lol. Hollywood thinks parents are incapable of talking to and teaching their children how to digest things that they hear.
    • Screenshot 2023-05-28 095429.png
  • Melissa McCarthy's singing wasn't bad but her acting didn't match the voice. It was a bit weird at times to hear her belting but her face was flat as fuck with no expression. I think someone else would have been better for the role. I actually wouldn't have been mad to see a big fat black lady play Ursula. They have a naturally deeper voice and I think darker skin with white hair would have looked cooler for costuming. But in 2023 white = devil.
  • They did a shit job animating the fish but, honestly a live action remake with fish is bound to suck. Not sure how to make that better.
  • Eric's mom is black now and he is adopted. Eh. Whatever. Seems on trend for them.
    • Screenshot 2023-05-28 100226.png
  • At least they left the dog alone.

Ariel's mother now was killed deliberately by a human.

Eric is an orphan who somehow became a prince.

Not only is there 1 original song added there are 3:
Power Ballad for Eric called "Wild Uncharted Waters."
Ariel get's an inner monologue song called "For the First Time" when she goes to Eric's castle.
The final is a rap song by Scuttle about Ursula's plans for the finale.

Ariel kills Ursula to save Eric instead of how it was in the original where Eric kills Ursula to save Ariel.
More questions than answers here.

Is Ariel's mother a nigger or was she a huWhite mermaid, and her father is a nigger so she's mixed, like Rashida Jones?

How do mermaids reproduce? I mean, how do they do that? Female fish lay eggs and the male comes along and jizzes on the eggs to fertilize them, right?

Is Eric a nigger? If not, why would he want to fuck a fish? He's just gonna end up jizzing all over her.

“Go on and kiss the girl,” changed to “Use your words, boy, and ask her.” Not a big deal.
>not a big deal
It is very much a big deal, for the reasons one might not expect.

See, SJW types back in the 2010's were pushing this narrative that you absolutely MUST ask a woman for consent to do ANYTHING on and/or around her otherwise she will feel threatened and raped. This includes innocent minuscule things like brushing your fingers on her face, holding her hand, or even brushing shoulders. Hell, at one point they were pushing the notion that one could "mind rape" a woman just by looking at her funny, until rational people called it out for the bullshit it was.

This is pretty much on the same line of thinking. A man can't just kiss a girl impulsively even though the both of them are looking at each other like they want it. he has to ask for her permission first like a fucking pussy, otherwise its once again the evil doings of the patriarchy by the evil men etc, etc, etc...

Is it true that rotten tomatoes audience score is freaking 95!!! I have given up on humanity at this point. Like holy hell considering how many people I know who didn't like base of the teaser alone

People who were watching the site said 2500 reviews were deleted in one day.

You really think they are going to be playing by the rules?

What the hell is this shit

Lin-Manuel Miranda is a menace to society. I haven't enjoyed anything he's composed at all outside of Hamilton, and that's increasingly making me think I just got suckered into the local groupthink about that specific musical. Even general music media is shitting on it for being cringe.

It doesn't even sound like he tried, Awkwafina does the same shit-tastic trap triplet flow that every rapper's been doing for like a decade now. Shit's old. Find something more creative.
