Ukrainian Defensive War against the Russian Invasion - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

Fuck it you know what?
At first I didn't want to waste time on it, but no, you cannot hide from another weekend of Glenn Greenwald lunacy. I suffer, you get to share the suffering with me.
I would archive solitary tweets to abide by janitorial rules, but instead I will archive the whole account, because it's literally 24/7 Kremlin propaganda.

Did you know that:
- what the US has done in Iraq is way, way, way worse than what Russia is doing?
(please ignore the annexation, land grabbing, deportations, threats to dissolve the country and destroy its national identity, which is, I believe, called genocide)
- how come only vatnik-adjacent athletes are bullied at sports events? How come Greg Rusedski and Tim Henman were not forbidden to show national flags at Wimbledon and US Open? How come US and Europe are not bullying their own athletes at their own tournaments?!? Can somebody please enlighten me?!?
- Ukraine is killing as many Russian civilians as possible! (yeah sure Russia does the same, but did you know that Russia has NUKES? HMMMM?!?)
- Did you know that there are German tanks at the Russia border? Oy vey this is just like 1941!
- Did you know that expecting the Russian and Belarus athletes to condemn the war is like condemning them to death, cause authoritarian government? Aaaah so you still want them to speak up, then maybe the governments are NOT as authoritarian as you said, CHECK MATE LIBERALS!!!
And that is like 10%, at most, from the sheer lunacy.
At one point, Glenn actually makes a point that as much as you might hate the "US security state and mainstream media", it is simply not enough. "These institutions must be uprooted/destroyed".
Talk about saying the quiet part out loud. Identical discourse with other totally genuinely appearing groups that have one purpose - to destroy the US, whatever the consequences.

Interesting, some random video on my YT feed was saying it's the britbong missile as it was the only one Ukraine had with that range. So if accurate, they either upgraded some Tochkas, or they infiltrated a launcher somewhere close enough to hit that city?
Found the vid and the image in it:

Yes, Suchomimus said it could be an upgraded 120km Tochka, the Tochka-U ("Scarab B" in NATO reporting), which that image does not show (only the 90km range of Tochka, "Scarab A"). Curiously there is the even more upgraded "Scarab C", which appears to never been operational, anyway:
Suchomimus still thinks it was the Storm Shadow, due to its accuracy.

At this point the Ukrainian counter-offensive is basically "Boy Who Cried Wolf" except in this story the boy is in on it with the wolf.
Their fucking with the Russian Army. You can't be on guard indefinitely and by constantly threatening to counter attack and not do it the inevitable happens when the guard is let down.

Beyond this though, I've been following the weather in Southern Ukraine. They had a very warm winter and an incredibly rainy spring. The mud season this year is exceptionally bad so that alone means its not surprising the Spring offensive may turn out to be a Summer offensive.

Ah, Hungary, lmao
Two separate events, two maps. In one, Great Hungary, used periodically by the Fidesz government these days, with the territories lost at Trianon. In another video, they show Ukraine without Crimea, even though Hungary recognizes the borders of Ukraine.
What will you do, Hungary? Invade Ukraine? Romania? Slovakia and Croatia? You'll invade your NATO and EU partners for 3M Hungarians outside the borders? With what army? What a fucking lunacy.

The nerve of these morons to spew irredentist BS while denying that Crimea is part of Ukraine in the same breath. Its even stupider when you realize that there are no Hungarians "trapped" in other countries. Hungary is part of the EU, which means that free movement is available. Anyone living in any of these countries can travel to Hungary and vice versa, while Hungary benefits from being part of the greater European economy. None of the regions lost in Triannon are majority Hungarian anyway, while the Hungarian minority populations that did exist have diminished as the Hungarians living in these regions either moved to Hungary itself, immigrated elsewhere, or assimilated.

Those who died or went into exile after the failed 1956 Hungarian Revolution must be spinning in their graves with the pro-Putinist antics of their modern-day "nationalist" successors. Orbán, along with the rest of Fidesz, are such cucks, considering the former was once a young democratic activist opposed to the Soviet Union.

Gibs back Transylvania, pls, Ion.

Magyar irredentism is even dumber then Serbian. Out of all the losers from World War 1, Hungary is the only country that didn't do shit about it to improve its position on its own. At least the Austrians had the good sense to realize the ride was over and enjoy bein a landlocked alpine nothing state people confuse with a British colony many times its size. Sure it's a long way down the ladder from a great power, but who cares when you can drink beer and ski at the same time.

Well, there was that one Austrian corporal who decided to do something about great power status... Granted he decided the other German nation better deserved his "talents" but you can't say Austria just sat back and drank beer on the slopes of the Alps.

So I finally got an answer to my question about what is wrong with the Russian air defense. Is it bad that? Yes the Russian air defense is that. They supposedly moved a lot of it to Ukraine. I personally think the Russian air defense isn't exactly bad. But they don't see any threat from the West so they probably didn't keep one up to the levels they should have.

From wonking I heard:
Russia's counter to NATO airpower was just a shitton of "Good enough" launchers. There's some things to be said about the viability of this for Russia, where if there are a lot of launchers your adversary probably can't get them all, but we'll leave that aside.

Ukraine invasion was only possible once the US was out of Afghanistan/Afghanistan collapsed as it left the US with no airbase to hit the middle of the country, allowing them to concentrate those launchers in the East to not only shut down Ukraine's airforce but provide a severe deterrent to any attempts to do a strike on Russian territory.

Ukrainian war, and especially the air war & trying to turn S-300s into cruise missiles, has been more destructive to Russian anti-air capabilities than anticipated. HARMS and import bans have made Radar units practically unreplaceable. Almost all spare part inventories were looted or sold off, so the replacements or cannibalism need to come from somewhere.

But in reality, what Ukraine is getting through is more an issue of luck/skill of the drone operators and Russian AD operators not really being ready for drones in Moscow. They're adapting and any future operations will be significantly more difficult.

I wonder if that half Nigerian Obama would have pushed for intervention in Ukraine back in 2014 if we knew how incompetent the Russian government was.
Half-kenyan.
And no. Obama was a limp-wristed bitchmade. He did lasting damage to the US both internally and internationally and he should be charged with treason for the shit he did.

At this point the Ukrainian counter-offensive is basically "Boy Who Cried Wolf" except in this story the boy is in on it with the wolf.
Accurate.

So you're telling me a Patriot Missile is actually a giant homing shotgun with a rocket motor? Fantastic.
Every anti-air missile is. Most ATA missiles just toss out metal rods, and its extremely effective because of the speeds involved and the lightweight construction of the vehicles being targeted.

Keep in mind, what Austria wanted to do most after WWI was merge with Germany. It even managed to accomplish that for a little while. That not happening is primarily due to foreign interference.

In other news, situation in Belgorod is grim. Local revolutionaries fed up with the Tyranny of Moscow have begun widespread shelling of border areas. Forcing thousands to flee. Russia is housing many of them in a sports complex in Belgorod. Apparently the local partisans are using NATO standard 155MM howitzers. Clearly bought on the black market from stolen Ukrainian stockpiles most likely.

Goddamn. The entire SF community plus Ground Branch must have such incredible blue balls right now.

The only thing that makes me think this isn't their doing is the use of NATO equipment. No way would they have done this without a huge buffer of plausible deniability. I'm not even sure they would fund partisans without the guarantee that no NATO equipment would be involved.

Edit to add:

Belgorod's governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said Ukraine's armed forces shelled several districts on Thursday, damaging buildings. No fatalities have been reported but Mr Gladkov said hundreds of families would be evacuated once the situation became calmer.
Ah yes, calm times, the time when people need to be evacuated.

Riiiiiight
Heard enough stories of mobiks getting into fights and chasing each other with axes and other sharp implements after getting drunk, so who the fuck knows lol

Imagine being le ebic internet wurrfurr expert and not knowing that you don't shoot stuff down with a missile/rocket by direct hit most of time
I can't find the video but it explained how SAM's work and it was supposed to be funny like a meme. It's actually pretty crazy to listen to. But SAM's don't actually hit or chase the aircraft like they do in movies. They fly in the direction the aircraft will be. They don't actually hit it either. They explode like near it and from what I understand the shrapnel is what hits and damages the plane. It kind of reminds of the old flak guns from WW2. Where the shell would explode and the shrapnel would hit the plane. But it's a faster more high tech version of flak.

That's probably not good idea to let them use NATO equipment. Not that I think it will cause some kind of escalation or anything. But it might make people in the US less likely to continue giving Ukraine weapons. It's not a risk that's worth taking. I don't think the US would but why take the chance.
@Ghostse
The Russians really think the US would fly from Afghanistan to attack Russia? The Russians are a bunch of paranoid fucks. lol

Russia is a very long country. When the Afghan government was our bitches, it would give the US the ability to base strike aircraft there that would be able to hit rail targets in the middle of the country and cut their ability to move men/material. It also would cut potential fronts off production for resupply. imagine how constrained Russia's artillery would be if they were cut off from stocks in the eastern part of the country; imagine how difficult it'd be to get tanks from the storage yards ready for action in the east when the refurb factories are in the west. Imagine what sort of trouble the Russian forces would be if they didn't have any way to get the patrol boat guns from the navy yards to mount on their BMDs.

They needed to keep SAMs but more importantly RADAR to make sure they could watch and make sure that couldn't happen. Afghanistan is no longer open to that sort of thing, so those units could be be moved from the south safely.

It depends on the range and type.
Short-range systems (including MANPADS), especially either infrared guided or active-radar guided will definitely "chase" the target, especially if its a rear-aspect engagement against a manned jet, helicopter or larger drone.

Anti-Ballistic missiles are more along the lines of what you describe, basically putting something with limited guidance but accurate projections of where the target will be.

Every other SAM is somewhere in between, depending on guidance system (active radar or infrared vs passive radar or radio-command) and target (maneuverable manned jets & helicopters vs ballistic missiles).
