Deferred contracts are actually pretty common for New Media projects. If the project ends up being monetized, you actually get more on the backend than if you worked a daily rate.

Translation: Because New Media is Hip and Urbane and Transgressive and Doing It For The Art, they don't believe in paying their employees. And they usually get away with it because there's an endless cavalcade of dupes who fall for the "it's for the art" excuse and for the warm fuzzy feeling of being involved with something progressive and nice and fuzzy.

Have you ever thought about publicly shaming him for his inability to pay you? After all the labourer is worthy of his hire.

@JulieRei whats it like working with Hayden? Is he pretty cool, a total cunt, or do you not interact with him enough to know? I'm just asking because I'm curious as to how a man who makes unfunny jokes at the expense of people who had just died hours before handles himself irl.

Here's another question for @JulieRei - I get the impression that lots of these Tumblrish media projects like to hire transgender types as a shield against their lack of talent, i.e. only for their progressive posing points. Does it not concern you that you are seen by them as trans first and a talent second?

No. I'm not a victim. I knew it was a deferred project when I signed on. I liked the script and Hayden has always been nice to me even if I didn't agree with some of the choices he made in the marketing. At the end of the day it's his show, not mine.

You're a lot more forgiving than I would be in the same situation. Kudos.

Congratulations, you have just broadcast that you are a dupe to every other unscrupulous pseudo-progressive on the entire web. Maybe it's my hard-nosed industrial roots showing, but people who don't pay you or try to dissuade you from asking for pay are more likely than not to shaft you out of it. In my line of work, for clients we don't know, we always insist that they put money on account up front.

Hayden has always been nice to me

Obvious facade is obvious. Has it occurred to you he could be just stringing you along?

With the greatest of respect, if I were you I'd harden the fuck up. The man has clearly taken you for a ride.

And on the other hand I've had Producers tell me I'm stuck up and lack dedication when I've turned down doing their unpaid or deferred projects. I don't think you'll find anyone in LA who is unwilling to do these types of projects if it's under a Union contract (Doing one such project is actually how I got into the Union), but it's usually because you really like the material and believe in the project or you know the people working on it and want to help.

@JulieRei, are you friends with Laurelai Bailey?

I know of her through the online community, but I'm not personal friends with her.

@JulieRei Would you like to have cyber sex with me? Serious question.

No.

@JulieRei Hello, nice to meet you. Did you ever think Hayden was funny or did you sign up for the show because you liked the what it was about? How much control did you have over the lines, the humor I've seen you use doesn't make me want to vomit so I certainly hope they gave you free reign over creative control.

@JulieRei do you feel that Gen Zed was, as it's been accused, a cash in on contentious social issues?

I didn't get that in full script itself. It was more about 4 people trying to make the best of a shitty situation. I think the trailer tried to focus so much on quickly describing the characters that you got the impression the entire show was about their identities.

@JulieRei has Hayden ever mentioned suddenly smelling burnt toast when he's around you?

Is this some other stereotype I'm unaware of?

What we recorded was pretty much the script itself. I did have some input, but it was mainly on if something was going too far.
