Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Late but since we're talking about sneakers again: Golden Goose is the brand and I have a fucking bone to pick with them. $500+ to look like you dug your shoes out of the dumpster.
My first lesson in artifice and brandwhore classism was taught by these shoes. My (naturally) scuffed, secondhand Stan Smiths weren't up to dress code but my classmates' shoes which looked way more fucked up than mine were fine. I didn't understand it for the longest time. Every time I see someone with these shoes it activates the wild chimp instinct in me and I want to bite their face off.
People pay money for shoes that look like that?

Fuck, I'm listing my gardening shoes on eBay, I'm going to clean up!

YES thank you!

If you gave a child an adult ammount of money they'd blow it off on sneakers, figurines, trading cards and shiny marbles. such things are cheap to produce en masse and have no intrinsic value beyond artificial scarcity.

Manchildren are a godsend for corporations. You get the most ammount of return from the least investment. Same reason "urban" music is so pushed now, yoy can make 20 reggaeton albums in a week for little money then cash on that trash for months. I really feel like its all in a downward spiral of producing ever more cheap garbage then increasing the marketing to convince people to consume and praise the cheap garbage. When all that matters is the bottom line theres no reason to keep pushing for the degeneracy and taking society down the drain with it.

Funny you mention that, the only people I've known to have them are high paid millenial office workers, usually the ones who have some sort of nostalgia for their childhood skateboarding days.

@NoReturn won't let me quote, but does this bag gifted to Kim Kardashian count as a White Elephant?

It's a Hermes Birkin bag that was customized by George Condo. The funny part is even by George Condo standards it's a horrible painting.
Late but Lmao it looks like an Amanda Turcol/ladyalt piece with the green faced goblin man and fat bitch :story:

This probably isn‘t the first time that this has been posted here:

And it certainly won‘t be the last. It‘s time to take consoomerism to its grave and initiate the depression by entirely stopping to buy crap as Null suggested.

It isn't a new thing, I mean who do you think was keeping the market for comic books and baseball cards so hot back in the 90s? It's also what keeps the market for sports cars modern and classic so hot, since all those kids who always wanted to drive a Corvette or Mustang GT can just go out and buy when they're an adult. Unfortunately for car companies, most of these manchildren/midlife crisis types can rarely afford more than one.

It's also like what animation is these days, like movies and show being made for children to justify the medium, while adult animated shows have to ape the same art style as Simpsons or Family Guy for comedies and the anime style for action. Which is funny, even manchildren consoom the idea of animation (this includes anime) by using their whole "animation is for adults" argument by using kids shows as examples for being "le deep."

Unicorn: Warriors Eternal is really great. It's from Gennady Tartakovsky and an absolute delight to watch because of how fluid and expressive the animation is.

I still want to know if there are any reformed consoomers out there. Doesn't it ever get to a certain point where they either outgrow this hobby, get bored of it, or realize that they've wasted too much money or no longer have any space (or don't want to live with clutter anymore)?
Strangely, I do know of at least one whose consooming dried up in their late 20s right around the time your frontal lobe finishes growing, so maybe that's part of it all.

Funko Pops are so useless and so ugly that they all deserve to be thrown into the plastic chipper to be recycled (I dont know what material they are made of, hopefully they can be recycled). Every single one of them needs to be recycled. Maybe except a few of each kind, so they can be stored in some barn in Bumblefuck, Iowa where in 30 years someone opens the Funko Pop museum, to remind the society of how utterly useless they were.

They're good retard detectors. The more of them someone has, the more gigantic a retard they are.

And they are the pinnacle of almost every wrong with modern society, especially in the western civilization, making Mike Judge's 2006 comedy Idiocracy feeling more like a tragic documentary about the current dystopian future of America.

They aren't even cool like a action figure or pretty like a statue, it's just a hunk of plastic that's either gonna end up buried with the Atari ET games eventually or end up in one of those trash islands in the ocean. At this rate, people will really start thinking you can water plants with Gatorade
