I believe she randomly stumbled upon one of Rick's daily spergouts about getting buckbroken by the pests and tried to give him genuinely well-meant and reasonable advice about not engaging them 18 hours a day in autistic frenzy, to which Rick responded with his usual tact and social grace. One of the atalkers noticed this and upon googling her quickly realized she (or the organization she works for) has her own website with a convenient contact form, and it escalated from there.

I for one support Pat interacting with random normie non-trolls regularly. Much like a zoo animal needs certain types of stimulation to lead a happy, stress-free life in captivity, Rick needs regular non-troll interactions to keep his content fresh and engaging. I can imagine it must be pretty difficult for the trolls to get fresh, exciting replies from Pat day in and day out, since he usually just replies to them with the same copypasta every time the onus is on them to come up with new creative prompts. With more frequent non-troll interactions, this gives the trolls some time to rest and recharge, and come up with new ways to keep us entertained. Leslie is doing a greater service than I think she will ever know.
