Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

I believe it was mainly for hunting dogs to prevent degloving of the tail when traveling through brambles etc. Supposed to be less painful to dock early than be degloved later

There are occasionally legitimate reasons for tail/ear docking, usually for working dogs that actually do things where they'd get serious injuries with them. There's really no excuse for declawing cats. Choose between your fancy-ass rich people furniture and having cats, or put in some effort to train them to use a scratching post and not the furniture, or just go fuck yourself.

Edit: and why do they all have that tail? I own a Boston Terrier and a rescue Frenchie, both are docked, and both are descended, albeit a long ass time ago, from OG bulldogs. Why do shitbulls have tails? Would seem to be a liability to me.

Pitbull breeders were probably hoping that their dog would never have to worry about losing a tail because they just latch and shake at the throat. I've not seen very many real dog fighting videos but that is definitely the M.O. Horses and bulls (their foes aside from themselves) are going to try and latch onto the assaulting dog's neck or back in kind, and are unlikely to try to go for the tail. Horses and bulls will also try to stomp and kick as means of defense.

That is my assessment, anyway. They get cropped ears more because those are around the head. Docking and cropping also occur simply because the owner wants to look like a real tough guy.

"Happy tail syndrome", they can break their own tails on shit wagging it. Mine had to have his surgically removed in the 90s, he was a goofy spaniel mutt. Most of the breeds with docked tails seem spun in the same way as my old dog.

Seriously that's just making shit worse, take something pointy and/or sharp and start stabbing the fucking thing in the face til it lets go or better yet is dead. I mean I figured that shit out when I was 9 and I broke my favourite penknife stabbing a pibble right in it's stupid empty head.

Because they think their little pibble is just like a normal dog which usually will let go when you agitate it enough. They don't realize their dog has been bred to lock on and rip whatever it's bitten, while ignoring it's own safety.

I think their skulls are built pretty thick, there's videos of hollow points bouncing off their temple.

I'd gut the fucking thing, or in the absence of a knife, choke it out. They usually fixate so hard on what they're biting you can choke it to death.

‘Exorcist’ Star Linda Blair Sued After Pit Bull Mauls Miniature Horse​

'Exorcist' star Linda Blair is being sued after her pit bulls allegedly mauled the face of a neighbor's miniature horse.
According to new legal documents, obtained by The Blast, a neighbor near the actress's Acton, CA animal rescue claims two of her pit bulls entered their property and attacked one of their miniature horses.
In the filing, the couple -- Stephanie and Edgar Najar -- claim this isn't the first time something like this has happened, and this time they were even injured during the attack.

The Najars detail the brutal mauling, in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Courts, saying, "On November 11, 2022, defendant Linda Blair's two pitbull dogs came onto (our) property...and mauled the face of our miniature horse, causing severe injuries to both Plaintiffs."

Adding, "Prior to November 11, 2022, (Blair) was aware that they had dangerous animals on their property, given that there were at least two previous occasions where (the) dogs came onto Plaintiff's property and attacked plaintiff's livestock."

Shockingly, the neighbor claims he has no choice but to SHOOT one of the dogs "in order to stop the attack."

The couple claims they should be awarded over $25,000 in damages.

It should be noted, Linda Blair is well-known in Hollywood circles for her dedication to animal rescue. Recently, her 'Worldheart Foundation' has dedicated resources to working with "bully" breeds.

On the foundation's website, Blair describes the work being done, explaining, "I have been fighting on behalf of bully breeds since the early 2000s. I stood on the steps of the California State House to ensure breed ban legislation would not impact our beloved bully breeds. Over 16 years later, it’s still an issue of debate."

She added, "States across America are considering voting like Montreal. They passed one of the most dangerous, life-threatening breed ban legislation we’ve seen, despite the positive press and hard work I and others have put in."

Interestingly, she claims, "We work to show that the problem is not with the dog, but rather the owner."

Blair discusses issues in the animal rescue community, explaining, "I am beside myself with grief and frustration, that I have not been able to dedicate the time necessary to continue with this fight, because I’ve been deep in the trenches of California’s pet overpopulation crisis. Thousands of animals die in California shelters each week."

According to a recent interview, the actress recalls, "Over the years, her life's savings have, you could say, "gone to the dogs" ... but in a good way, for animal welfare. But as she looks ahead, she knows she needs fellow animal lovers in her corner, so she can keep helping dogs."

It's unclear if the horse survived the attack, but the family is suing for damages.

Was at the dog park today with a friend who has several big dogs. A pitbull + owner was walking around the fence outside the park. I said to my friend "I don't like pitbulls" and she said "oh come on, don't be that kind of person. It's all in how you raise them." This is coming from her, where one of her dogs had been attacked by a pitbull.

How do I convince her that pitbulls are weapons without coming off as dog racist
