What would be "this is bad" level about this? 99.9% of their customers will never need to change IPs, why give customer support this ability?

Why doesn't Shane just switch to some other ISP where you can get a new IP through the extreme superhacker level technique of "unplug the modem and plug it back in"?

btw, I Google searched this, everyone on the internet seems to think only Comcast Business customers can set static IPs. From his talk about "equipment swaps" I'm assuming Shane tried another already known MAC Address rather than dig into his vault of high level computing junk and attach a truly random ass thing the network has never seen before.
