Fomented social division over heightened issues like the trans movement, American style racial identity issues and progressive politics in general. I highlight the word 'fomented' at the start of my definition because it is important to my point: these are not organic things. You have Blackrock with its ESG scores, etc. pushing this stuff hard and groups before that. This turns it into an active war between groups that otherwise might turn their gaze on the wealthy and powerful instead of battling each other over whether men can go in women's toilets.

A population that has no unity, is a population that you can rule over.

The problem I have with this view is that it's often said with no conceptualization of how one would "end" the culture wars or what that end would look like.

Saying "if we could all come together and realize who's important" is a nice idea that I generally agree with, but on some level these differences do exist on an organic level and are irreconcilable. If there weren't large swathes of the public with genuine investment in these topics, there'd be nothing to inflame to begin with.

I do get that the idpol shit is what came out of OWS and all that, but all I think happened was that the left and right writ large were just shown what the other folks actually felt on these topics. There was never "unity", just ignorance, to begin with. The "divide" always existed, TPTB just had to shine a floodlight onto it.

Another thing red states should do is force their public universities to create two year bachelors degrees with zero breadth requirements. That would stop the brainwashing of students and save an enormous amount of money with no downsides. It's an easy sell politically ("My plan will reduce the cost of college by 50%!") and the counter-argument ("What about well-roundedness???") is easily countered by pointing out that public schools already teach "breadth" for 13 years and by pointing out that humanities majors already don't have to take any breadth classes (you don't see them taking calculus or organic chemistry or any actual STEM class).
