If being a 'practicing' homosexual is considered a crime, then the ones willing to risk imprisonment for engaging in it are going to be people who are already more inclined to risk-taking and ignoring social prohibitions, who are also more likely to be criminals for those same reasons.
Human sexuality is potentially a spectrum, with homosexual on one end and heterosexual on the other; the majority of the spectrum is some degree of bisexuality, which would apply to most people in a distribution curve, but they would still identify as either straight or gay instead to maintain a particular social persona, either because being seen as homosexual is viewed negatively and/or being bisexual is (which it still is due to being seen as an inherently unstable / unreliable / fluctuating identity). Think of how many people, particularly men, outside of prison stay on the down low - this would also explain why prison gay is common but some prisoners still never engage in it. Because some people are wired that way and some aren't. You also don't have to worry about your reputation as much any more because it's it's own closed world outside regular social norms and once you get out again people probably won't want to hear about your time inside.
Gay men do fetishise working class / poor men, it's kind of built into western gay culture due to the only men who had the leisure time and resources to sneak about being the wealthy or aristocrats, the social pull to manipulate their way out if caught, and the ability to purchase the lower class to fulfill their needs in a discreet and nearly completely controllable fashion. Remember the massive social scandal that came about when Oscar Wilde went after Bosie, the son of the Marquise of Queensberry, and then things ended badly between them / his dad got involved. Wouldn't, couldn't and didn't happen with his excursions with rent boys, but one member of the same social class and he gets sent to jail.
Also, the simple privacy - if you're poor you're more likely to be living in a crowded, shared but cheap living situation where you simply don't have the privacy to act out. Hence stuff like cottaging / dogging originally, which then just becomes ritualised into a thing in it's own right, probably by the wealthy tourists. Aristocrats / the wealthy in general tend to have a weird push-pull fascination / repulsion with what the dirty poors are doing, it's not just the gay ones. They get bored due to lack of inherent struggle in their lives and seek out 'excitement' all the time.
Anyway, some gay men are aware and critical of this stuff, both aristocrats preying on the working class and also the pederasty / 'mentorship' exploitation of young men, and do discuss it intercommunity - Alan Hollinghurst includes it as a theme in a lot of his books, particularly the Swimming Pool Library (explicit) and also there's a pretty good book called the Sins of Jack Saul, by Glenn Chandler - it's centrally about the Cleveland Street Brothel Scandal, which is a victorian incident where aristocrats were using underage post office delivery boys as rent boys, including members of the royal family, but was overshadowed / the public were distracted by Jack the Ripper starting almost straight after. It goes into the social context of that exploitation, including mirroring it with the theory that the ripper was royalty hiding his indiscretions with prostitutes - and the exploitation of young people in general, the age of consent being 14 at the time - but also goes into historical gay culture generally, and to bring it back on topic, the historical commonality of cross-dressing in both gay men and straight men as homosocial bonding, which is obviously prevalent in the TIM phenomenon today. It's a good read, but again quite explicit, with a deep dive into victorian pornography among other things.
Both of these are about britain obviously, I don't know what's going on in the US but I would imagine similar intercommunity discussion happens. You are a step behind in that you still have Allan Ginsberg the paedo being lauded as a modern icon / cultural groundbreaker / avant garde freedom chaser etc. The lack of (open) ruling class probably makes it harder to acknowledge social corruption, maybe? And no I am not making a coded statement about jews, I mean how you all think you're temporarily embarrassed millionaires or that you're all middle class.
I would bet a large amount that pride month aligns with the exact age and time of the year that puberty is most concentrated in. I haven't checked.
I'm not sure puberty correlates to a particular month or season of the year. Also, pride is different months in different countries - June in the US because Stonewall happened June 28 1969, and then all the other countries starting to copy the US because that's what always happens and the Stonewall narrative is socially useful. I remember there being a pride in february in my lifetime, and the (uk) one in 1970 was held in November. Records are spotty but I doubt they've always been in June outside the US.
It is definitely documented that suicide and idealisation thereof can cause social contagion and it's obviously being manipulated into kids to create an imminent threat / leverage. It's a common cult tactic.
You might also want to try reading Eve Kosofsky Sedgewick's 1997 essay 'Paranoid Reading', because while it's also about obsessively seeking negative subtext in gender non-conforming / gay media representation at the time, rather than seeing it as flawed representation but better than nothing, and it's now basically become how social justice but particularly trans rights works, everywhere. Assume the worst, self-isolate, then ostracise others by yelling at people that they want you to die. I think you are also doing it, though, because 'everyone copies america in everything' should be fairly obvious, rather than jumping to 'there's a biological trigger month for puberty, and the gays are perverting it'.
Apologies for how long this is.
