One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

This video came out like less then 10 hours before the trailer and I find it refreshing. Most One Piece YouTube people are absolutely coping that there is any chance of it being worthwhile and it's nice to see someone point out the obvious reasons why instead of basing all their reasoning it will be good on "b-b-but Oda is helping so it must be good...!" which is so tiresome. Like 50% of the comments are schizo posts dismissing him as a hater, especially after the point the trailer dropped.

On the trailer itself... while it's fun seeing some iconic locations, nothing else looks good to me. Luffy sounds like a retard (and not the good kind of retard he actually is) and just doesn't feel like Luffy personality wise based on the few bullshit Marvel-esque quip lines. I assume his retarded voice is because Netfux had to glomp onto that one fucking time Oda did that Straw Hat nationality SBS and give him an accent because they couldn't leave well enough alone with just the actor. I can't blame Oda too much for that SBS though, because they would do that shit anyway - just look at Nig-ojiko's actress.

My sister sent me the trailer and was surprised when I told her I had no intention of watching it (both the show and the trailer itself). If I want to watch live-action One Piece, I'll look for uploads of the Tokyo Tower or USJ shows.

Zoro shutting down Luffy about saying finishing moves was really weird, especially since Zoro's call outs when fighting are so iconic. It was obviously doomed from the start, but that moment made me think that the people working on this really don't get One Piece. The closest I can get to optimistic is that this might just be mediocre because Shueisha and Toei will likely be protective of their cash cow so the writers can't do really dumb Netflix Bebop tier stuff.

The only time this was any good was, ironically, in One Piece: the Luffy/Fujitora confrontation at the end of Dressrosa.

I already had 0 intention of watching live action One Piece, but that trailer managed to drop it into the negatives. Congratulations, Netflix.

WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY, SHANKS!

No one sounds right and everything is zoomed in too close.
Where is Usopp's iconic nose? Why does it look both high and low budget at the same time? Also I like how they have not shown any of the other villains who show up at the start, probably because those ones would look instantly horrific due to their wilder anatomy and designs. Also...what nightmare will Chopper look like if this is the best designs they had for the humans of the crew?

I bet if they get to Chopper he will have his screentime heavily cut down to save on CG budget.

All right, fuck it it. Let's see that trailer.

*Returns hours later once he is done swearing*
Nami's performance is not giving me a lot of hope here given how much of the early stuff relies on her being able to give emotional performances. I have other critiques but that feels fairest right now.

*looks at the comment section and swears more*
Some of these fucking morons are talking about how they should just copy Joker's design because Buggy's just another murderous clown. Thanks for confirming you've no knowledge of the series random internet expert.

The fucking bots have been unleashed like a ravenous horde. The amount of posters claiming this live action is a word of genius when it has not even come out yet is hideous.

And then the "it looks so amazing, imagine how the movie would look?" Which movie you blatant bought up vote for the trailer? If even 20% of those likes are given by real humans I'll eat a straw hat.

I saw the one picture of the five crew members with their feet on the barrel--and couldn't believe how cheap it looked.

It looks like a bunch of cosplayers posing for a cool photo, which makes sense: ordinary-looking people, probably closer to the actual anime demographic, cheap-looking wigs...and it looks like they were having fun. That would be mildly impressive.

But then tell me that this is an actual Netflix show that's licensed and budgeted, they chose THESE people as the cast, they had highly-paid people do the props and costuming, and the same photo is horrifying.

Just realised Coby and Alvida are both visible in the Gum-Gum Pistol bit of the trailer. Neither looks awful, I think it's telling though that they've not embraced a fully inhuman body shape for Alvida and bodes poorly for a lot of even the small section they are adapting.

Oda had better actually be having his eyes improved, not gouged out after seeing the finished version.

I dunno. Zoro and Sanji seem well cast and Nami is wearing a belly shirt in the trailer, so its already more successful than the atrocity that was Cowboy Bebop. The big issues with the series are likely going to be the shit lighting, the ever-present green screen and jank effect, and the guy who plays Luffy.

Also, Isn't this the scene of them doing their promises and telling their dreams before going to the Grand Line? You know, that famous scene that was made in the middle of a fucking storm provoked by Dragon? Why does it look that they're going to the beach instead?

My girlfriend is super enthusiastic about wanting to see this shit, and I introduced her to One Piece. So I was in my right to deny seeing it.

I eagerly await for Luffy to talk about how much he loves tacos.

The little quips already made me groan and the cringe from Luffy doing the pistol gave me cramps. Have I seen worse shit? Yes, yes I have. Will I watch this? Hahaha fuck no.

Also, not even an attempt to give Ussop the mighty nose, pathetic.

As far as we know, Dragon has never touched a DF, let alone eaten one. I know people like to theorize about him having a wind or weather-controlling DF, but as canon goes, the dude's just lucky with weather.
