Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

He then claims that Americans are so dumb that when a store goes out of business they just leave the building to rot instead of redeveloping it into a dense walkable neighborhood:
Failing malls and other 1970s retail is proof positive that "freeways magically turned downtown into vacant lots" is complete bunk, as it is.

He then shows a clip of an tram in a "good city". Shortly before doing this, he declared that all of the US looks like this:
I made a meme that showed Houston's light rail in an extremely pedestrianized area and compared it to an Amsterdam freeway to illustrate how laughable these comparisons are. Also, that A&W sign proves that is Canadian, not American. Come on, Jason, you can't even go to America for more good "stroad" footage that hasn't been seen ad infinitum?

He has managed to successfully make a worse Northeast Corridor. You can already go from Boston to New York to Philadelphia to Baltimore to Washington on a high-speed train without having to make a gigantic detour through Vermont and New Hampshire.
Also doesn't take into account topography. I guess no mountains in the Netherlands to worry about.

Really, comparing a small, dense and flat country that is almost entirely below sea level to a continent-spanning and spread-out nation with multiple major mountain ranges should've discredited his arguments immediately. Just dealing with the Rockies would make a transcontinental HSR unfeasible. And again, the only comparable nations to the US in this regard are Russia and China, both of which are notoriously empty/ignored outside of their major cities to make their railways systems remotely usable. Every thing Jason does just makes the mask degrade more and more.

That's a definition of efficiency that ignores the fact that trains have to either stop at stations a lot and thus slow down, or not stop a lot and thus is able to serve less people. Whereas any plane can go from any airport to any other airport and don't have this problem. I've never seen why urbanists consciously ignore planes other than "muh climate change."

Also personally I don't see the value in being able to spend more time terminally online replying to Youtube comments, but that's just me.

Jason is getting attacked on Mastodon for using a disfigured SpongeBob in the thumbnail:

LOL good luck placating them (not). Disabilityfags are so insane they believe curing deafness is genocide, we have a thread on them.
It'd be great if Jason realized they're the exact kind of leftie tards he allies himself when he says "trans rights" and changed his mind accordingly, but he won't. This isn't the first run in with these autists either, he's complained about alt text policing before.
He still gets mad whenever someone tells him to not be so angry:

It's one thing to be pissed off and angry. It's another, much more laughable thing when you're pissed off and angry and you're wrong.

They can't stand planes because carbrains use them. So carbrains are willing to use some of the most inconveniently designed ass transit; why? Because they're fast, cheap, and safe for what you get - many (most?) plane tickets are less than the gas to drive.

Which directly goes to show that other ass transit is not fast, cheap, or safe (or some combination of the three) and so they shy away from it, because airports are niggerfree zones.

I've started walking more to lose my gut and it's not hard at all, even walking where the sidewalk ends (on Tor). These mamby assholes are just weak bitches; 50% of distances are less than three miles, that's an hour walk.

I would suggest looking into a Honda Fit or an early generation Insight. I think the first gen Insight was the pinnacle of the best modern-ish technology put into the lightest weight chassis they could at the time. Honda actually sold them at a loss because of how much development went into them, as they were built at the same factory they made the S2000 in at their Suzuka factory. At least with safety regulations they can't make them as light as they used to anymore.
1st generation Insight is rare though. I did a little bit of research into them because I saw two of them on the road in my part of Central Florida recently. There were only 14k of them sold in the US over 7 model years and that is about 80% of the total sold worldwide. Very interesting vehicle, all aluminum body. Built in the same factory as the S2000 and NSX. 1999 Insight was the most fuel efficient hybrid sold in US until 2018 model year Prius.

"Angry" reviewers usually are wrong, and get views for more for the spectacle. AVGN and Zero Punctuation both got a lot of clicks for being "angry reviewers" but also get a bunch of feedback for shitty takes and abysmal taste.

The difference is that all those YouTubers (not just James and Yahtzee) have some level of self-awareness and will backpedal to "ayyy it's just a character" when being both an idiot and a douchebag is in question. Jason has no self-awareness and will double down on his views, including resorting to censorship, when called out on it, yet lacks enough confidence to engage on any turf where he doesn't have 100% control.

It's funny, most creators have a small segment of their fan base that they find undesirable. At some point when the creator finds that the "small" undesirable part actually turns out to be the core of their fan base would be the time they should start reevaluating some things.

Luckily these types of people are fickle in what's in vogue for them. Jason will quickly be forgotten by them when the next leftie trend comes around and urbanism goes the way of Kony 2012. Some of them will make cope compromises as they realize the harsh realities of riding your bike in the elements. They will cope at first by buying a small electric car claiming they're still part of the movement because at least it's not an SUV. Then they will buy a house in the suburbs because they claim they're doing it out of necessity because capitalism.

Slowly but surely over time they will all eventually turn into the very thing they claim to hate.

I used to own one and would absolutely not recommend one for daily transport. The Insight was a complete one-off so parts aren't produced anymore (and arent shared with other models) and the current stock is slowly draining away, with most Insight fans hoarding parts cars to keep their existing machines running. I used to joke that anything I saved in petrol I lost in replacement parts due to their insane cost.

The real issue I had with mine was the battery tho. The management system on the first gen is straight up garbage and if you don't drive it on the reg the battery will just kill itself.

It was a really fun car though. Hypermiling in that thing checked off all my autism marks and it didn't handle badly either. If I were to do it again though I'd just buy a 2016+ Prius Eco and modify that with an undertray and some extra aero panels since it's more modern architecture will outperform a G1 Insight and it will work much, much better as a daily.

I was in a shitty litle town called Durant, OK earlier today. I ubered from the truck stop to the gym, then went shopping at the walmart across the street. Horror of horrors, when I was done getting a couple days worth of groceries I couldn't get an uber back. Since it was a little over a mile I walked back.

I managed to do so DESPITE the fact that there was no sidewalk AT ALL. None. Just a big main street, a curb and quelle horror, GRASS! Yet I managed to survive walking in an "non-walkable" city! This is of course because I am a singularly manly man with the kind of advanced survival skilks, reflexes, and sheer testosterone fueled alpha-chandness that would make U.S. Army Rangers jealous and not because any city is "walkable" if you're willing to, y'know, fucking walk.

The urbanists hate airplanes because of what they represent. You know how lefties love to seek meaning from everything and analyze life it's a literature 101 class. To them airplanes are too closely associated with freedom and independence. Yes there are many laws that govern general and commercial aviation, but stay within those regulations and as a personal pilot you're able to drive to your rented hanger, file a flight plan for a quick hop to different airport in a totally different region, and enjoy the power of flight.

Also airplanes and cars go really well together. In fact some car companies started out making airplanes, like BMW.

spends some time talking about how US cities used to be built around railroad lines and had streetcar tracks and how in the 1800s you could take a train anywhere:
1687194690250.png
He has no explanation for how airplanes outcompeted passenger rail for long distance travel or how buses replaced streetcars.

He then shows this map of possible high-speed rail routes for the US despite having spent the rest of the video talking about how only intra-city travel matters when talking about the size of countries:
1687194876191.png
Ironically, this map shows exactly why rail is a terrible idea compared to airport/interstates. Who wants to travel from Phoenix to Vegas by taking a detour in the wrong direction through Los Angeles? His map shows that someone wanting to travel from Pittsburg to Boston would have to stop in DC (wrong direction), Philly, and NYC. The only way to fix this would be to spend hundreds of trillions building HSR rail lines between every pair of cities (and there's a lot more cities than just the 20 shown in the map) or we could just use planes/cars instead.
Another part of the reason for lack of rail in the west, as has been mentioned, is mountains. A lot of red tape and agreements from states that hate eachother would have to be met before they start blasting tunnels. That would take decades.

Meanwhile a car just has to ride on the already built interstate to move between states, and have fun picking up snacks at gas stations and taking pictures in front of monuments along the way

Cities Skylines 2 will not have bikes or bike lanes at launch:

They will have bus lanes/tram tracks and pedestrian streets though:

and new parking lots:
1687262612734.png
The most interesting feature is that sims now have time/money preferences for travel. This has the potential for a lot of laughs when urbanists get mad that their sims still choose to drive despite having transit options though we all know they'll solve this issue by building zero parking.

They also now let you build proper on/off ramps and elevated highways:

and pedestrian bridges:
1687262891346.png

They also announced some new tools for drawing roads.

No bikes on launch?? Shock and horror! Lol. To think a simulator cares more about simulation than one little autistic niche, who would have thunk it?

If I was looking for a small fuel efficient car, I'd think something like a Mitsubishi Mirage, a Chevy Spark, or a diesel VW beetle if you want to stay away from batteries. More full sized, get a earlier hybrid, Ford made plenty of them, though a Toyota is tougher.
