what are the best internet forums?

The IGN Boards literally raised me. Spent most of my free time between 2001 and 2008 there. This is the only "real" forum I still use regularly. I think these days most of the old school style message boards are relatively high quality compared to the rest of the internet because it's only boomers using them and they are typically hyper focused on relatively niche topics. Hard for a community to devolve to shit given those two criteria.

I remember MarvelMods used to be a really nice place back in the day. It was a modding community for mainly Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Everybody there was very friendly and it was a nice forum to be on. Not that it isn't anymore, but it's kind of dead with a lot of the community sadly moving to Discord.

bit of a "monkey with rock" question but what differentiates forums and imageboards
I don't know but my impression from occasionally glancing at 4chan is that, aside from the actual technical distinction, imageboards have a very disposable style of content where people watching running conversations more than building up organized bodies of writing and people posting on imageboards lack a posting "personality" (through their avatar, username, etc.).

Fucked Company was good during the peak of the dotcom bubble.

Once someone who worked in auto lease-to-own came on and talked about how much he took advantage of niggers by repoing their cars as soon as their payment was late (which was always) and either fleeced them for more money or took back the car and repeated the process with another nigger. It educational and entertaining.

Roblox's forums used to be one of the best places to be a fag and shitposting. It was removed in 2017 not before getting shittier.

A troll parodying the faggot moderators on roblox for their extremely shitty moderation. It was banned permanently because the faggot mods don't like being made fun of. However, the masses instead of appreciating the satire of this use took this person as an actual threat to Roblox and took it seriously.

The Fatshark forums were pretty cozy back when Vermintide was active. Not too many users, most everyone was at least good at the game, even if some were spergs, very little irrelevant discussion, no one made much of a mess, and the jannies kept themselves scarce. As Darktide inched closer to release, there was an influx of brown knight reddit fags and it became apparent that most of the old guard wasn't all that interested in DT period. My 4 year old account got axed for telling some week old account to dilate.

yeah plus it doesnt really require registration so that adds to the "well we dont need the whole personalization shite"

Sailing anarchy has some pretty cosy conversations and image threads.

My back in the day story was ntfu.com it's history is very similar to what happened here but on a different tangent. Pissing off the military instead of the trannies. Actually that's the same thing now isn't it?
