My opinion: Putin is not as powerful as you think. There are several Kremlin experts that said, Putin was the face and referee for the Kremlin while his oligarchs shared the power between each other. Some theories on the start of the war include Putin hoping to gain more power again.

During the war, the other oligarchs and Putin loved keeping Prigozhin and the MoD separate so that no single person could round them all up. That's one reason why Putin never put Prigozhin into his place after his rants. And in the past few days and weeks Prigozhin was doing these frontline videos. This was something essential for the Putin regime, Zelensky gained massive support for his videos during the height of the attack on Kyiv or his visit to Bakhmut. But Putin just can't do the same, he is either too sick or too afraid. So Prigozhin did the PR work, but he also set himself up to be a potential new leader for Russia.

I read a speculation that this is an FSB ploy to decapitate Wagner and absorb it into the regular army. There's so much suspicious stuff going on: No video, only audio from Prigozhin. Supposedly "hacking" a TV station to then just air the same audio. The fast and coherent response by the Russian government when in the past they flailed incompetently and every government institution responded with a different message when they got genuinely surprised. Very strange all around. We'll see what we'll see.

So I wouldn't be surprised if Shoigu and Gerasimov did this nonsense trying to take out Prigozhin and this is him acting quickly.

The Russian attack on Moscow was always intended to be a feint.

The Russian MoD declared that the situation is under control. 5000 Wagner soldiers have been eliminated and two Prigozhins have been killed. An additional three Prigozhins have been captured on several parts of the front.

We'll have to see but it does appear he's overplaying his hand.

One explanation is that he believed he was out of options. He had made too many enemies and has to make a move now or he was finished.

I thought Storm Shadows were low, slow, and large. Do their systems have trouble intercepting those types of vehicles?

They aren't any slower than any other subsonic cruise missiles, IIRC.
What they are is both lower, and stealthier - this makes it very hard to get a radar lock as most the time the missile is literally below radar, and when its not its a smaller RCS target which increases detection time which increases tracking time which increases the time required to get an interceptor on-target.

Its actually really interesting, because for years the internet milsperg space had been flooded with pro-Russian/Chicom propaganda that MISSILE GO MOAR FASTER!!! is the better methodology for a system, while "slow but hard to see" was a doomed concept that could EASILY get intercepted by S-300/400, Tor, Pantsir, etc.; yet this war is really proving the Western doctrine of subsonic, low-RCS as an extremely capable concept.

There were rumors Shoigu wanted him arrested. It's possible he actually tried and failed. Or there was an assassination attempted. I agree though. Either Prigozhin thinks he can pull this off or it's a Hail Mary. Either way, it would not be the first time one Emperor was replaced by another because the legions were all off fighting the Germans and the Persians except for one that just waltzes into Rome and takes over.
