The thread where you post your mildly unpopular opinions

Generally the Hollis Shiloh's is an amazing resource for good gay role models, even when a difficult past is involved. but Problem is that there are no trannies in the series, the protagonists resolve their issues in rational ways, and its canon that wolf shifters WILL sniff out and rip apart pedophiles. so the groups that would promote the books to LGB are instead distancing themselves from them.

Large + delicate + degrades over time + new ones sound no better than a CD + countless albums are only released as limited editions for a small fortune, to appeal t

The core experience of vinyl is getting your college clique together to smoke, drink, gawk at album art, and spin tunes until 4 am. It's not the same with CDs; the jacket is too tiny. It's even less the same with MP3s and the like.

I am sure that the places that ban porn have less rape.

Yup.
Didn't say anything about rape. Said "actual harm". Rape would be one example, but the brain rot, impotence, sexual problems, trafficking, STDs (the industry has huge amounts of STDS, and semi-regular HIV outbreaks), etc are also harmful and just a few of the things that porn is linked to.

The armies of western countries are still significantly better than the armies of shithole countries like China, Russia, Iran and North Korea.

The rightwing has this weird obsession with parades, marching and making fun of soldiers for posting dumb tiktok videos of themselves goofing around in bootcamp. At the end of the day your average western soldier is professional who is trained on how to use + maintain their equipment.

I don't think grocery stores should sell live fish as pets. I also don't think 90% of actual pet stores should sell fish. The fish never have enough space or aren't taken care of right, there are always tons of dead fish, it's just bad. Plus they sell tiny-ass bowls without filters marketed like "oh yep this is all you need for your betta! Just this and some tap water and some shit-ass fish flakes!"
I think the only stores that should sell fish are the foofy high-end retailers who market to those guys that make their aquarium their entire life. Nobody else takes even a minute to figure out how to treat a damn fish, and nobody cares about animal neglect when it isn't a cuddly mammal. I'm not obsessed with fish or anything but it just upsets me knowing how many grocery store fish are gonna die because nobody cares about them.

Keeping any animal that isn't a cat or dog is closer to animal abuse than anything else. Dogs & cats are exempt because they have been domesticated for thousands of years. Your parrot or fish was not. It would be happier if it was in its natural habitat. This is also true of zoos including the ones that try really hard.

I hear people say that pets (dogs, cats) love whoever feeds them and I hear them say we like animals because they love us unconditionally. I don't think either of those things is true. Animals like whoever pays the most attention to them and speaks their language. Cats particularly. They like to massaged while petted, and petted gently. They like when you use their own body language, like nuzzling them or bunting. They like to be talked to by mimicry. People often scorn these things because they feel like they're the superior of these creatures, which they aren't.
It's also much more clear that "hate speech" is not just speech, but generally political speech, the most protected class of speech because it's exactly what was intended to be protected under the First Amendment. Some argue that things like porn or flag-burning isn't speech at all, with varying degrees of reasonableness. I'm not for censoring either, with some minor carveouts for shit like CSAM or direct credible threats of violence to intimidate or extort.

To be completely consistent I'd have to be against censoring those too but morally they're so utterly reprehensible you risk losing the entirety of the concept to defend shit that isn't worth defending.
Under its original interpretation the First Amendment applied only to the federal government, not states, and to the extent that states protected speech it was political speech. People were still being jailed for blasphemy as late as, like, the 1850s? Maybe later. The states gave direct funding to state churches too. Damn near every right that Americans think the Constitution has, including supposed originalists, was fabricated out of thin air by the Supreme Court.

Actually was put there by the 14th Amendment incorporation principle. We would have absolutely no rights against state governments without that principle. Your shitty hick state could just outlaw speech entirely and force you to heil to that.

Or take away your guns. Or force you to worship Beelzebub. Or station soldiers in your home. Etc. etc. etc.

Did you know you have a constitutional act to buggery? That was, somehow, spun out of right to privacy which was spun out of search and seizure protections.

Do... do people not do this? I thought that was standard operating procedure? Plus cold ketchup tastes better anyway.
Evidently, that is up for debate.
