Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Damn, this Summer season is full of nothing, might have to rewatch something I watched before until we get to Fall.
Synduality: Noir, AI no Idenshi, Ikimono-san, and Hyakushou Kizoku are the ones I want to watch this summer. It seems like AI no Idenshi will be the most interesting one, and you can't go wrong with short series like Hyakushou Kizoku or Ikimono-san. I hope Synduality will be super good too, though my expectations aren't as high for it since it's based on a game. I'm kind of worried it will be a generic flop that's instantly forgotten, but I'll still watch it because it's a mecha show and it could end up being at the very least entertaining mecha action, provided there's not too much fanservice and it doesn't get insufferably edgy or "deep".

Of course, Hirogaru Sky: Precure is ongoing, and I like it a lot. It's a fairly engaging episodic magical girl show and I'm always excited to watch it at the end of the week.

Welp that was a better season than I thought. Opinion on the different shows:
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen wo! - An overall good show that sadly had its first arc be the best part of it. It's a good setup for season 3. Megumin is just a fun character and the show uses her and her big titted friend extremely well.
Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou - A shitpost that's sort of memorable and funny. No chance it would have a second season but it was good for what it was.
Yuusha ga Shinda! - The standout anime of the season. Started out as the usual schtick of the new hero being a dumbass, but it had a lot more heart, clever and funny writing than I expected.
Mashle - Like One Punch Man it's based primarily on the same gag, though Mash is not as ridiculously broken as Saitama and his interactions with everyone else are well done, he is autistic but not oblivious to other people. Hopefully the rest of it will have actual stakes.
Edomae Elf - Heartwarming and funny. Elda is adorable and is the right amount of socially awkward without it becoming annoying.
Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers - It's pretty shit. Doesn't know what it wants to be and just comes off as tryhard.
Jigokuraku - Alright and kinda makes me nostalgic to badly written LN anime that aren't isekai. Last few episodes just shoehoen super special technique that of course are insanely powerful but non of the insanely powerful protagonists know of.
Demon Slayer - Like I said before, it's just bad and drags the whole series quality wise.

I still think Helck might be a sleeper hit but I'm not losing sleep if it isn't. The manga is great, but the studio is kind of literal who tier and the animation doesn't look all that nice. The VAs are top notch for the characters, so they have that going for it. I just don't want it to be Biscuit Hammer tier bad. Zom 100 seems interesting but other than that, its grinding the backlog of old anime for this season, which I don't particularly mind doing.

I finished s2 of Ippo a couple of weeks ago and I'm getting really fucking sick of Ippo and Kumi's jerking around. I don't like romcoms that do this and it shows up barely in Ippo and its already kind of annoying. I still love Ashita no Joe way more, though they aren't that similar minus the fact that they're both about boxing. I thought Ippo would be way grittier but I'm still very much enjoying it. Takamura vs Hawk was kino.

Felt the same way about KonoSuba. It felt like an Its Always Sunny season that only had Charlie and Frank in it. It made for funny episodes, but you need the whole cast of bumbling asshole retards or else something feels off.

Magical Destroyers felt like the Dollar Store version of Shimoneta and KLK and I'm glad I dropped it on the first episode. I said it earlier in the thread but the show would be cool if it came out like 20 years ago during the early digipaint era of anime.

All this talk about this season & it's anime, but no one is talking about the show which had a literal cum battle, which is somehow less censored than the manga, making the half year wait for it's 2nd half worth it.
Holy shit I thought Golden Kamuy was serious all of these years, I'm gonna watch this for sure this looks goofy as hell.

I just realized, summer is gonna have 3 fighting series that are all netflix originals and are all botched to some degree (Baki, Kengan, and Ragnarok), which is a shame because a friend of mine really likes the pickle arc in the manga and won't shut up about it.

For real (fr fr)? That was four fights and they're all varying degrees of meh (Jack's was great from a character perspective but it really wasn't that good). I like seeing the bullshido guys getting bitch made as much as everyone else, but we had an entire arc dedicated to that.

Kengan is probably going to add in all the shit they left out in the first half in a really weird flashback montage. There's no way they're cutting out the coup. They can, but the story is going to feel so incomplete if that's the case.

finished reading a manga based on the SMT devil summoner series with the devil summoner, Raidou. they really brought some characters too life the PS2 games never could and showed more of Raidous stoic, but big softy on the inside personality.

loved the story and characters but i think what i liked the most were the demons themselves. in the game, demons are pretty much just tools you use as a means to an end. the manga gives them alot more personality and makes them feel more like companions rather then your salves. its a Pity the Raidou series is dead and forgotten by Atlus at this point. alot of Koreans called the character Raidou a "racist" for wearing Japanese imperial school wear as his outfit (even though the game is set in the 20s japan when the emperor still in power) and that triggers them. even removed it as a skin from newer games in the series.

Admittedly I haven't watched or read Spice and Wolf so I don't really have any feelings about it getting a remake.

But part of me hopes it only gets 2 seasons to keep that meme alive (bonus points if only covers around the same amount).

Why is this getting a remake? The story has continued somewhat since then.

I absolutely fucking adore Spice and Wolf, and the last thing I wanted was a remake. I'd rather have seen an OVA of some of the side stories than a remake. It's not like updating the animation will improve the show. The first anime's animation was pretty mediocre even in 2008 and hasn't aged well, but the show still holds up because it's entirely about the story and characters.

The plebs on Reddit are thrilled they get to see the same story again with a washed-out 2020s art style and gratuitous CGI (look at the horse in that PV, Jesus Christ), so I guess someone wins. Maybe this will become an FMA vs FMA:B situation where we can argue the merits of each version for the next 20 years.

The story has been finished for years. I think the final volume in the main storyline was published in like 2011 or 2012, although there have been 4 or 5 books of side stories published since then. We're like 6 or 8 volumes deep in the spinoff series about Holo's daughter at this point.

it's ok, there's nothing that screams I must watch it, which let me catch up on other stuff. plus it's summer, time to go outside (for once this year).

prolly gonna check out the ryza anime to see how well they translated THIGHS, and if the romcoms don't fall flat on it's face with traumabaiting they'll be at least entertaining.

The Café Terrace and its Goddesses and The Dangers In My Heart have been confirmed for a second season in 2024.

Now if we can just get Rokudo's Bad Girls a second season ;)
that probably fills the quota, meaning yuri is my job! and insomniacs after school won't get a second season - the latter has 13 episodes with the last one coming out next week, I don't expect it to ruin the most comfy and wholesome animu this season, especially since the manga is still going, but you never know...

New trailer for Pluto and an actual release date (October 26)
Does look a bit better then the teaser posted a few months back which doing some digging, none of the animation in that one was used from the show and it was a 5-6 year old pv to show investors to try and get them to help fund

Also is it just me or are they changing the KR sublot in more of a religious cult then robot KKK? Given recent events I wouldn't be surprised if they lean into something like robots have no souls or AI is a affront to god. although I hope that's one of the few things since muh Thracia was always gonna be fucking annoying when they adapted it, more so if they make the mistake to reflect more of current year US.

Trying to find an anime that I watched one or two episodes of when I was younger. The only thing I remember is that the pilot is a hot-blooded idiot, and he tears one of the mech's hands off and throws it at his enemy as a "rocket punch." This ring any bells for anyone?
