They began tormenting Tomlinson and his wife after Tomlinson posted a tweet in 2018 saying he didn’t find the comedian Norm Macdonald funny. What should have been a benign tweet got sucked up into online forums where far-right extremist trolls congregate. They fixated on Tomlinson, and he became the target of relentless abuse.

Ok, if people shouldn't use one of Fatrick tweets to start shitting on him then why should Fatrick need to engage with every single troll message he get's? Because that's how it started. Fatrick did something, then people reacted, then Fatrick reacted, people reacted, yadda yadda yadda and the more back and forth happens the more it escalates. Yet John Scalzi, who is almost as much of a hack as Pat and has political views that are almost as retarded as Pat's, has an online presence, lots of followers and a decent career. He doesn't spend all his time arguing with his detractors on Twitter, though no doubt he has some.

The article makes it sound like the Pests and the trolls choose people at random. That's often the lolcow cry, "they hate me just for existing." But 7 billion other people exist. They don't have Kiwifarms threads, or entire forums dedicated to making fun of them.
